Sri Lanka’s National Esports team announced

The national team for Dota 2 representing Sri Lanka at the IESF World Championship has been named after selections were held through online and LAN qualifiers. The International Esports Federation is the global governing body for Electronic Sports, consisting of over 40 national Esports member federations. The Sri Lanka Esports Association, founded by Gamer.LK, has been a paying member since 2010.

The National Dota 2 Team:

  • Isuru ‘ Deathwish’ Lokuge (C)
  • Heshan ‘ Sathan’ Sanjaya
  • Kalindu ‘ MorningStar’ Pathirana
  • Kaveesha ‘NoobKavi’ Kagasuru
  • Dinuka ‘6ixx’ Perera

Qualifiers were held online, with the finals being played LAN. For those following the Dota 2 scene, there were some questions that cropped up regarding players taking part online while not being in Sri Lanka. Although the rule from SLESA is that qualifiers for international events require all players to be present at LAN, all clan heads of SLESA came together to grant special permission to Mirsab ‘Paradoxx’ Hassan to play remotely. However, due to unavailability of Mirsab for the main event in December, tournament organisers deemed it unfair that the roster representing Sri Lanka and the roster playing in the qualifiers was different. Therefore affected matches were replayed with actual rosters. The 5 members from x3’s Victorious Secret went on to win the grand final and thus confirming their place in the national team representing the nation in Seoul from December 11th to 15th.

In partnership with GamerTech by MAS the team will be sporting a jersey that uses ocean plastic, identical to the those worn by the national cricket team. Ramesh Liyanage and Nisal Weerakoon will also be travelling to represent SLESA and in capacity as manager respectively.

GCLL 2019 Winners Crowned!

GCLL 2019 Winners Crowned!

This years Gamer.LK Clans League of Legends League (GCLL) featured the newest tournament system set up by GLK; a Challenger League and a Pro League.
The Challenger League was an open tournament which amassed over 40 registrations. The top 2 teams of this tournament were given the opportunity to play in the Pro League.
LGN-PAX and Team Mystic made it through to the Pro League where they got to face the top 6 ranked League of Legends teams in the country.

After a thrilling two weeks the Pro League concluded on the 25th of November where nA – Phase took the finals with 3 – 0  score against PnX-R [3] D, with an advantage from the upper bracket. In their journey to the finals Phase met currently ranked #1 PnX-Lanka Lions, favourites to win the tournament, in the upper bracket final. They convincely beat  Lanka Lions 2 -1 on their way to finals.

Team R [3] D on the other hand had a tougher road to the finals. Dropping to the loser bracket early in the tournament, R [3] D was always one game away from being knocked out. Despite this they made it to the lower bracket finals where they met Lanka Lions and bested them in a best of 3 matchwith a score of 2 -1.

nA-Phase roster:

  • Disuru ‘Hawa’ Rathnayake (Captain)

  • Shashika ‘Candypanda’ Yushan

  • Tharuka ‘Kratos’ Fernando

  • Anjana ‘Mojo’ Amarasinghe

  • Eranda ‘Garfield’ Madushan

  • Kushan ‘Saber’ Dakshitha (Substitute)

From what we witnessed this was the most exciting GCLL so far since every team gave it their best at the pro league with intense nail biting finishes. Hard work finally paid off after hours and hours of late night practice, it’s really comfortable to play in a team that has five best friends. – Disuru ‘Hawa’ Rathnayake

Thé Kadé parts ways with PnX

Thé Kadé parts ways with PnX

After years of playing under the PnX banner, 3 of Sri Lanka’s top Dota 2 talent part ways with the clan. Mirsab “Paradox” Hassan, Viren “Hawkie” Dias and Munthasir “Toadboss” Shiraz played for Thé Kadé and later combined to play as Indomitus – both dominated the Sri Lankan Dota 2 scene for several years.

The move comes with the players looking for more flexibility to represent the country at international events outside of clan restrictions.

We spoke to Safwan “CB” Mansoor about this and he had this to say:

We decided to let go of Mirsab, Viren and Muntha because we respected their decision and we want to give them the opportunity to achieve their vision, even though them not representing the clan is going to be a big loss for our DOTA wing. They wanted to make the best team in the country with the best players out there and due to clan rivalry there were certain players that they wished to play with who were in different clans and they didn’t want a clan to be a barrier in making this team come true. So they communicated this with us and gave us the word that they will not represent any other clan and they want to go as a standalone team so that other players in other clans will be approachable and will not have any issue in joining them.

Inshi joins Team Apostrophe!

Inshi joins Team Apostrophe!

Inshani “Inshi” Shalinga is a Call of Duty 4 and Counter Strike Global Offensive player who has been actively participating in competitive gaming since 2017. She initially got into Esports by watching teams compete at SLT eSports 2017. She was quickly picked up by Maximum Esports early in 2018 and spent a year there. According to her, the lack of investment and focus from Max into multiplayer games was the motive for her move to TechMorph where she felt she could further her gaming career. Her decision was made easier when she found out that TechMorph had a female CoD4 team: Team Apostrophe.

When asked about her perspective on the clan system as a female gamer Inshani had this to say :

“The clan system and the gaming environment is great and being around a male environment female players can learn a lot through their game-play.”
