This years Gamer.LK Clans League of Legends League (GCLL) featured the newest tournament system set up by GLK; a Challenger League and a Pro League.
The Challenger League was an open tournament which amassed over 40 registrations. The top 2 teams of this tournament were given the opportunity to play in the Pro League.
LGN-PAX and Team Mystic made it through to the Pro League where they got to face the top 6 ranked League of Legends teams in the country.

After a thrilling two weeks the Pro League concluded on the 25th of November where nA – Phase took the finals with 3 – 0  score against PnX-R [3] D, with an advantage from the upper bracket. In their journey to the finals Phase met currently ranked #1 PnX-Lanka Lions, favourites to win the tournament, in the upper bracket final. They convincely beat  Lanka Lions 2 -1 on their way to finals.

Team R [3] D on the other hand had a tougher road to the finals. Dropping to the loser bracket early in the tournament, R [3] D was always one game away from being knocked out. Despite this they made it to the lower bracket finals where they met Lanka Lions and bested them in a best of 3 matchwith a score of 2 -1.

From what we witnessed this was the most exciting GCLL so far since every team gave it their best at the pro league with intense nail biting finishes. After years of playing under the PnX banner, 3 of Sri Lanka’s top Dota 2 talent part ways with the clan. Mirsab “Paradox” Hassan, Viren “Hawkie” Dias and Munthasir “Toadboss” Shiraz played for Thé Kadé and later combined to play as Indomitus – both dominated the Sri Lankan Dota 2 scene for several years.

The move comes with the players looking for more flexibility to represent the country at international events outside of clan restrictions.

We spoke to Safwan “CB” Mansoor about this and he had this to say:

We decided to let go of Mirsab, Viren and Muntha because we respected their decision and we want to give them the opportunity to achieve their vision, even though them not representing the clan is going to be a big loss for our DOTA wing. They wanted to make the best team in the country with the best players out there and due to clan rivalry there were certain players that they wished to play with who were in different clans and they didn’t want a clan to be a barrier in making this team come true. So they communicated this with us and gave us the word that they will not represent any other clan and they want to go as a standalone team so that other players in other clans will be approachable and will not have any issue in joining them.

The Services Export Promotion Council of India is organizing Nations Cup for Esports in association with Esports Federation of India (ESFI) during the Global Exhibition on Services this from 25th to 28th November 2019. Sri Lanka is among the seven countries that have been invited to take part.

The honor of representing Sri Lanka was given to Mohamed ‘Ma$ter’ Mufeed for Pro Evolution Soccer. He is the first athlete since the official recognition of Esports in Sri Lanka earlier this year to represent the nation. Raveen Wijayatilake, president of the Sri Lanka Esports Association will be visiting India to discuss bilateral relations on how the Esports Federation of India and Sri Lanka Esports Association can work together to grow the South Asian Esports scene.

Inshani “Inshi” Shalinga is a Call of Duty 4 and Counter Strike Global Offensive player who has been actively participating in competitive gaming since 2017. She initially got into Esports by watching teams compete at SLT eSports 2017. She was quickly picked up by Maximum Esports early in 2018 and spent a year there. According to her, the lack of investment and focus from Max into multiplayer games was the motive for her move to TechMorph where she felt she could further her gaming career. Her decision was made easier when she found out that TechMorph had a female CoD4 team: Team Apostrophe. 

When asked about her perspective on the clan system as a female gamer Inshani had this to say :

“The clan system and the gaming environment is great and being around a male environment female players can learn a lot through their game-play.”

Over 100 companies from all across the island took part at the largest mercantile sporting event in the country – the Mercantile Esports Championship 2019 held on the 9th and 10th of November 2019 at Stein Studios. After two days of nail-biting Esports action, Orel IT and HSBC Data Processing Lanka (HDPL) qualified for the Grand Finals which will be held on the 1st of December at Stein Studios from 10 a.m. onwards.

Orel IT made a convincing mark at the event making their way to the finals with ease, while HSBC Data Processing Lanka Ltd. (HDPL), Calcey Technologies and Motion Miracles tied for the 2nd spot. After considering the overall participation across many titles, HDPL was sent through to the grand finals. 

The big match style Grand Finals will consist of a full day of activities, giveaways and Esports action as the two companies battle it out across 4 video game titles to earn their rights to the coveted Mercantile Esports Championship trophy. The selected video game titles for the Grand Finals are Call of Duty 4, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile and FIFA 19, with Tekken 7 being the tie-breaker. Tickets for the event will be available for purchase online at mercantile.gamer.lk or at the gate.
