Gateway, Ananda & CSI shine at Gamer.LK’s Inter-School Esports Championship powered by SLT-MOBITEL

The sixth edition of Gamer.LK’s Inter-School Esports Championship (ISEC) ’22 powered by SLT-MOBITEL came to a thrilling conclusion with the crowning of the overall champions. The event which saw over 90 schools across Sri Lanka participate, was held online and featured 10 popular games. A physical awards ceremony to felicitate the winners was held recently at SLT-MOBITEL’s Auditorium in Colombo.

The closely contested Championship series with 10 game titles, saw new entrants become champions for some of the more popular game titles. Bandaranayake College Gampaha received their first gold as the winners in Call of Duty 4, showcasing their impeccable skill and teamwork in the tournament. Meanwhile, Maliyadeva College Kurunegala became gold medalists in the highly contested PUBG MOBILE title, St. Joseph’s College Colombo won gold for the popular Free Fire title and in Valorant, it was Lyceum International School Wattala who earned the gold medal.

With an inspiring showcase of talent, Gateway College Colombo proved to be the ultimate victor once again, securing the overall Championship by claiming 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. Ananda College came in second with Colombo South International College coming in third. This is the sixth consecutive Championship win for Gateway, who have managed to dominate the school-level Esports scene since 2016.

Esports has been recognized as a key focus sport by the Ministry of Sports, highlighting the importance of exposing young people to Esports in schools. Its competitions at a school level can provide numerous benefits to students, such as improving their hand-eye coordination, critical thinking, problem-solving, and team communication skills.

Partnering with Gamer.LK, the Amrak Institute of Medical Sciences presented the Amrak Best School Gamer Award for the smartest and the most skilled school gamer in the country. Savindu ‘CHARLI3′ Perera from Gateway College Colombo was announced as the winner at the event.

The sixth edition of Gamer.LK’s Inter-School Esports Championship (ISEC) ’22 powered by SLT-MOBITEL saw over 90 schools across Sri Lanka participate. The competition was held online and featured 10 popular games. The awards ceremony was held at the SLT-MOBITEL Auditorium on 29th May 2023.

The Amrak Best School Gamer competition was a special event to find the most talented individual gamer in Sri Lanka by testing a combination of gaming knowledge and casual gaming skill. This stood apart from the main Esports event which was purely focused on Esports skill and medals won for participants’ schools.

Savindu ‘CHARLI3’ Perera showcased extraordinary skill throughout the Amrak Best School Gamer competition by participating in the online gaming quiz consisting of questions that focussed on logic and game-industry knowledge. After placing in the top 3 of the online gaming quiz against 550 other school gamers, Savindu moved on to the game triathlon featuring three hyper-casual mobile games. Here, Savindu secured the top spot thanks to skills and strategies which earned him the title of the Amrak Best School Gamer.

The first runner-up position was earned by Aalim Ahmed Riza of Gateway College and Raviru Guwnaka from Ananda College was the second runner-up.

With 2 out of 10 eligible titles concluded, the Rocket League Grand Finals at the Inter-School Esports Championship 2022 (ISEC ‘22) powered by SLT-MOBITEL saw some intense and fierce competition as the young racers from Gateway College Colombo showcased their skills and determination on the virtual track. At the end of the day, it was Gateway College Colombo who clinched both gold and silver for the title, while Carey College Colombo secured the bronze medal.

Gateway College Colombo’s performance was nothing short of impressive, as they managed to secure the top two spots in the Rocket League game title. This not only cemented their dominance in this particular game title but also brought them to the lead in the overall championship standings dropping Bandaranayake College Gampaha into second after their spectacular performance in Call of Duty 4.

The Gateway College team has established themselves as the formidable force to be reckoned with, having won ISEC 5 consecutive years in a row. In their campaign this year, it remains to be seen whether they can maintain their momentum in the remaining game titles or if other schools will step up and give them a run for their money.

Bandaranayake College Gampaha Wins Gold in Call of Duty in Day 1 of ISEC ‘22

The Inter-School Esports Championship 2022 (ISEC ‘22) powered by SLT-MOBITEL has kicked off with the first grand finals featuring Call of Duty 4. Ten game titles will be played in the tournament and the first game has already produced a thrilling outcome. The competition saw Bandaranayake College Gampaha take home the gold medal in Call of Duty, while Nalanda College Colombo came in second place to earn the silver medal.

The teams competed with great intensity, showcasing their skills and strategy in the popular first-person shooter game. Bandaranayake College Gampaha’s victory was a testament to their excellent teamwork with their star player Dulanjana ‘MADARA‘ Menaka with a breakthrough performance. They were able to outplay their opponents and secure first place in the Call of Duty 4 category.

The Inter-School Esports Championship 2022 powered by SLT-MOBITEL continues to be a platform for young and talented Esports players to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level. Sri Lanka’s largest mercantile-level sporting event, Gamer.LK’s Mercantile Esports Championship powered by SLT-MOBITEL concluded recently with Global System Solutions (GSS) emerging as the overall Champions for the third consecutive year.

GSS emerged victorious with the most gold medals and thereby securing the Championship for the second year. Orel IT clinched second place and HSBC EDPL won third place.

“GSS takes pride in being the overall Mercantile Esports Champion successively for 3 years and continues to participate in this great event. MEC ‘22 drew more than 1300 employees from 80 companies participating in 22 game titles. With over 250 matches played, the championship gave gaming enthusiasts the opportunity to represent their companies in Esports.

Recognised in 2019 as the 70th official sport in Sri Lanka by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Esports continues to grow at a rapid pace and is widely regarded as the country’s ‘fastest-growing sport’.

Sri Lanka’s champion Esports athletes were recognised and felicitated at the seventh Dialog – SLESA National Esports Awards Ceremony held recently at the BMICH Colombo, under the patronage of Amal Edirisooriya, Director General of Sports.

The Sri Lanka Esports Association was formed in 2010 by Gamer.LK and four other leading Esports clans with the aim of promoting and developing Esports in the country. Sri Lanka Esports played a crucial role in standardising Esports in the country, adhering to international standards and rules to prepare young Esports athletes to reach the international level.

The National Esports Awards ceremony which began in 2013, returned after a brief hiatus of three years due to the pandemic, to acknowledge and honour the Esports athletes who have continued to excel in their performance in the years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
