A new twist on 1v1 mid games
Unlike the traditional 1v1 mid games you’re accustomed to seeing at tournaments like The International, games played at Red Bull River Runes, will be based on a unique custom game mode. Dubbed Red Bull R1v1r Runes, this modified version of a 1v1 mid game makes for a challenging one-on-one matchup. Contrary to normal 1v1 mid games, both heroes will start off in the mid lane with 3 Items already in their inventory. Namely the Blink Dagger, the Bottle, and an Observer Ward. Instead of having to farm experience and level up from scratch, heroes will also start off at Level 6, making it such that their ultimates will come online right off the bat. Players are also given a random item at the 5-minute and 10-minute marks, and a Divine Rapier is dropped at each of their towers at the 15-minute mark. The winning objective, however, remains the same as the traditional 1v1 mid game. Kill your enemy twice or destroy their Tier 1 Tower.
The tournament format

Consisting of 6 Dota 2 players per clan, the tournament will host 54 players. Split into 6 groups, the group stages of the tournament will be played in the single elimination format, but there’s a twist. 2 groups will have only 8 players. Based on a social media poll, two players will earn a slot in the final bracket, depending on their popularity. The 52 other players will have to duke it out in the group stage and the winner of each group will advance into the final bracket. The final 8 will play in the single elimination format as well
