ZeGG goes down to Outplay before redeeming themselves in grand finals at ROG Arena Valorant Invitational

  • UG ZeGG eSports place 1st at the ROG Arena Sri Lanka Valorant Invitational
  • x3 Outplay and WG GunSlingerS placed 2nd and 3rd respectively
  • Omal “Roach” Prabuddha of UG ZeGG eSports awarded the Top Fragger award
  • Outplay, ZeGG and GunSlingers in a 3-way tie during round-robin qualifier

Day 1: Round Robin

The ROG Arena Sri Lanka Valorant Invitational was organised by ASUS ROG Sri Lanka in strategic partnership with Gamer.LK to bring together Sri Lanka’s best Valorant teams fighting for a prize pool of LKR 250,000. 5 teams were invited for the tournament where they got a chance to face off each other in a BO1 round-robin series from which 2 teams made their way into the Grand Finals. Day 1 (May 1st) saw the teams engage in 10 intense matches by the end of which all teams had played 4 matches over the course of nearly 12 hours. There was also a surprise three way tie between UG ZeGG eSports, x3 Outplay and WG GunSlingerS, who had all won 3 out of their 4 matches. Thanks to x3 Outplay’s incredible final match (match 10 of the day) against UG ZeGG eSports they were able to qualify for the grand finals due to a 2 round difference. This sadly left WG GunSlingerS in 3rd place and allowed x3 Outplay to move to the finals and face off against UG ZeGG eSports.

Top Fragger Award

A separate LKR 18,000 prize pool was up for grabs for the top 3 fraggers during the round-robin stage. Omal “Roach” Prabuddha from UG ZeGG eSports and Shazlim “Scr1m” Amith from WG GunSlingerS were the front runners with both securing an impressive 84 kills each. However, due to fewer deaths and a better overall combat score, Roach was eventually named the top fragger with Scr1m coming in 2nd and Janith “Slapspear” Hettiarachchi of WG GunSlingerS coming in 3rd with 73 frags.

Day 2: Grand Finals

During the Grand Finals on Day 2 (May 2nd), everyone was waiting to see x3 Outplay triumph over the behemoth’s of Valorant in Sri Lanka – UG ZeGG eSports, after their impressive final match on day 1. However, ZeGG came to the grand finals prepared more than ever and with the sole aim of being champions. They managed to win the BO3 series 2 – 0, with a 13-5 finish on their map pick of Haven and even beat x3 Outplay on their map pick of Bind with a shocking 13-1 scoreline. This allowed UG ZeGG eSports to be crowned champions and take home the bigger stake of the prize pool of LKR 150,000.
