Title: Are there any Colombo shops that sell branded PC cases?
Post by: OMGitsShan on November 11, 2017, 07:14:56 pm
I'd rather avoid any of those cases that look like they want to be in a Transformers movie! Getting parts to build a new PC from abroad so have to source the case from LK. Ideally looking for something more boxy, elegant mid/full tower eg Corsair, Phantek, Cooler Master etc If anyone has any recommended shops locally that may have such brands or similar and at decent prices, please let me know, thanks!

Not really a fan of that case because it is borderline "Transformers" which is what I want to avoid, but mostly because I noticed that the motherboard orientation is 90 degrees clockwise with the I/O ports at the top of the case which doesn't work for me. Thanks for the suggestion though. Is the 5th lane address a place we can drop by to see what you have in store?

How much are you looking to spend? TechZone has some Tempered Glass In Win cases but they aren't cheap.

Anywhere between 10,000 - 30,000 as long as I can find the ideal branded case! Ah ok, I've bought odds and ends from them but I didn't know they carried cases so will go check them out, thanks!

They run from about 35K to 45K; you're paying for the looks and premium feel alone. I personally wouldn't have got one if I had to buy brand new. They're exactly what you want though; incredibly sleek and minimal.

TechZone has both the In Win 805 and 908; from personal experience the 805 is best when paired with a water-cooled CPU. If you're aircooling like me expect to pay for more fans, as ventilation isn't one of it's strong points. It works for me because it's dead silent even with all case fans running full blast.

They both look really cool and are as boxy as I want. I won't be water cooling although given SL temps, it would seem a good idea. The dust in this country is an issue too. The In Wins would have definitely been good choices for me until I noticed that there are no optical drive bays, which creates an issue for me. I do need to have an optical bay handy as I have a brand new spare DVD/RW because I'm in the process of ripping my 10,000+ CDs (used to DJ) into FLAC. This is a little side project so definitely need space for a drive. What's the dust situation like for you with all those fans?

Dust isn't that bad of an issue surprisingly. The filters catch most of the dust on the intakes, and the positive pressure created with 3 intakes and one exhaust keep the rest of it out. After 6 months with these fans all I have is a thin layer of powder-like dust on the bottom of the case and the GPU.

I ran an optical disk reader in this enclosure for a couple years while I ripped my collection:

Sold if off else I'd have given it to you if you were interested.  It may or may not work for you. Made it easier for me as it put the reader on my desk within easy reach.

Yeah, i'm going to have to consider the whole dust/positive air pressure situation with whatever new case I get. Hopefully I can find the perfect case here for that. Thanks for the offer, I did consider an external enclosure, however I figured that even with an aggressive 50 discs ripped per week, the project would take me 4 years to complete and in all probability will actually last much longer because I'm sure stuff will come up that prevents me from keeping such a rigorous schedule! So for that reason I think, keeping it permanently mounted internally would be better. Incidentally have you ever ordered from Aliexpress and had it delivered here? I'm just wondering what the experience is like? I've ordered from Aliexpress for delivery to other countries and it's been fine. I'm just wondering with SL Post how it would be? I can imagine the package would get held up at the main post office and then you have to wait a week to receive the letter informing you of such and then going down there for them to open it and tax you. Would love to order lots of little handy bits and pieces but having to deal with SL Post is putting me off it.

I can assure you it is not the case. I order from AE all the time and delivery is through SL Post. Till today I've never had a problem with them. Takes from 15 days to a month to deliver. Rare cases I've waited for 45 to 50 days too.

Same here. Ordered from AE and mostly within 2 weeks or a maximum of 1 month for delivery.

As others have said, ordering from AE is as simple as can be. I've got well over a 100 items down from them and never had to pay tax (unless you get it through DHL, in which case there's no avoiding it). Most recently got down a whole batch of stuff to build a couple 50,000W dimming systems; what would have quite easily cost 300K+ here cost me about 70K per board, with 20K going towards getting a custom flight case done.

None of it was taxed, and on average it took 2-3 weeks to come; some take longer, some come in less than a week but I've never had anything get lost. Most of it comes direct to your house without any letter or such. If you order a bunch of stuff and it all comes in one batch, or you order something big, your postmen may not be able to carry it on his bicycle and will either ask you to go pick it up from your local post office or will bring a little at a time.
