The Gamer.LK eSports Triathlon (GET) is a bi-monthly tournament that brings a new and unique perspective to traditional eSports. We hope to hold this tournament every two months, starting August.

Dates: August 14th and 15th 2010
Venue: Ground Zero, Excel World
Time: 9am to 6pm
Entrance fee: Rs. 500 per person (Rs. 2,500 per team)
Team limit: 16

So what format makes this tournament unique and justifies a Rs. 500 entrance fee? Read on...

The Format

All participating teams, regardless of what game they play, will be put into one draw together where they will face each other. This means if you're a Counter Strike 1.6 team, you will be competing against DOTA or Call of Duty 4 teams, all in one draw.

Two game lists will be generated – an "eSports list" and a "Casual Games list". At the start of each matchup, the two teams will choose their primary game from the eSports List. They will then play two matches on the selected games where the winner will receive 1 point.

Example:
Team Liquid vs. n00b Alliance - Liquid chooses CS as their game of choice, and nA chooses COD4. The two teams play one CS match, and then one COD4 match. This means Liquid will try beating nA at COD4, and nA will try beating Liquid at CS. Both teams will be playing their game of choice AND a game they are not familiar with!

If at the end of the two games the score is 1 – 1, a random game will be chosen from the "Casual Games list" which the two teams will have to battle it out to win and move onto the next round.

This rewards all-round skill and makes it important to be familiar with more than just one game to be successful – similar to a swimming, running and cycling triathlon.

Prizes
The prize pool for this tournament will come from registrations, and therefore will be determined by the number of teams taking part. All income will go directly into covering venue costs and prizes - this is not a profit-making venture

Registrations
Registrations for this open tomorrow, and will end on the 12th of August 2010. Any team registering after 16 teams have registered will be put on a waiting list similar to how SLCG works. It is a fun and new twist to competitive gaming, and will be a blast to take part in.

It's Rs. 500 as explained in the original post because even one match consists of three games, which take over 2 hours. That's twice the amount of participation compared to other tournaments, for less than twice the price

Also note that we aren't making a profit out of this - everything we make from this tournament goes straight back into the event. We are organising this in a way we can sustain it every two months so that we can keep the LAN scene a little more active
