Team TOX1C set to take part in the Razer DotA Global Challenge

About The Razer Global Challenge
The Razer Global Challenge is the first in what will be a series of massive online DotA tournaments under the RGC banner, organized in conjunction with Dota-League.com. The Razer Global Challenge is, to put it simply, the biggest global DotA tournament to be held... ever. 1024 teams, from all over the world will be taking part in this challenge... and our very own Team TOX1C, consisting of 5 of Sri Lanka's finest DotA players, will be one of them. Last time we checked apparently 1068 teams had already signed up and registrations officially close on the 29th of May.
Razer are no strangers to hardcore and casual gamers alike and their name is synonymous with stylish & high-quality high-end gaming gear. They clearly seem to be going all out to organize and sponsor an event of truly mammoth proportions... and by the looks of it they've managed to accomplished exactly that.
One of the tournament's biggest draws is the ridiculous $30,000 cash pool that will be distributed amongst the winners. For those of you not familiar with exchange rates, that's almost 3.5 MILLION rupees in prize money! As if this wasn't enough, the first 4 teams also win brand new Razer Carcharias headsets... per player. That's 5 headsets per team! Razer seem to be sparing no expense in gifting RGC's winners. They have also stated that the prize pool will only get bigger and bigger every tournament.
The exact prize breakdown is as such:
You read right. That's over 0.8 million rupees for the winning team and even a substantial twenty five thousand rupees for coming in 64th place. This generosity is to no doubt in place to encourage more teams to participate and give RGC a shot, as well as to award the best of the best for their efforts.
From the draw it has been decided that Team TOX1C will be playing in Region D. And although the exact start date of the matches have not yet been confirmed, you can count on Gamer.LK to bring you the latest updates on the tournament as and when they happen.
I was lucky enough to get in touch with TOX1C Team Leader Muksith "Tenza" Ajwath for an interview :
Introduce us to the TOX1C lineup that will be taking part in the tournament
Abdul Muksith ‘TenSa’ Ajwath – Carry (Team –Leader)
Shanaka’AngelHasH’Weerasuriya-Semi Carry
Chaminda’Z-A-P-P-E-R’De Silva-Semi Carry
Sashan’VeNoMzZzz’De Silva- Support/Ganker
*How ever on the 5th, we still haven’t confirmed any one yet. Still trying to pick one among the 3 people we have thought already.
Give us a little back story how on the team was formed.
Back in 2008, we were interested in playing CS for SLCG and WCG-SLQ 08. However we formed team X-Trap using most of the best D-O-T-A players and they were,
Jockey, Ashan(Ash), Venomzz (Sashan) , Doom , Hamza and myself. We did a lot of late night practices at elements and the result of that we were able to be the runner-up of SLCG 08 and knocked out 1st round on WCG-SLQ by a team ( Can’t remember name -LL? I think) After the disappointing loss on car blade suggested this idea why not make a good team for D-O-T-A and compete internationally since that is our field. And that’s how the current team was formed.
What's your opinion on the Razer DotA Challenge?
Well it’s a large scale online tournament and also the first tournament where they have open-invitations around the world. I think this is going to be a good tournament where they are trying to minimize lag issue’s using HostBoT’s placed mainly in Singapore and Europe. However this is going to be one hell of a tournament since all the pro teams are participating. And yet, we do plan to try our best ^^.
What's the main motivation behind entering the tournament?
Main motivation, Hmm we’ll it’s of course to improve the team understanding and capable of playing and since WCG-AC is coming up soon this could be a good chance to put our plans to act. And recently the pings to Singapore and India have been reduced back to 40 like it used to be 3 years back. I hope we can put up a good fight.
Do you fancy your team's chances of winning big?
We might be able to go over the normal teams. But pro-teams well that’s a hard luck but its all good we’ll be trying our best.
Who do you think your biggest competition will be?
At our current team skill level, most of the Asian teams are going to be tough. T-B-H We are not even near the level of top-Asian teams.
Are you excited and/or nervous?
Was excited Nervous last year they announced to play Vietnam on stage. Currently I’m not excited I’m disappointed.
The tournament is an online one right? How does the team plan on playing it? From their homes? Together from a cafe?
I don’t think we are able to play from a café, most of the café’s close down at 8. Tournaments happen in the late night. So I guess we’ll be playing from home since VenomZzz is in Singapore.
Any worries, that most of the hosts might be European, which would translate into lag issues for you guys?
Well I think that’s not a problem to worry about right now, First we need to qualify from Asia-Region where most of the best teams are here so we will need to focus on that. And yeah the hosts are going to be from Singapore.
How do you guys normally practice? Do you watch replays? Or have a play-book?
Iv asked the team to watch replay’s, and I think they rarely do (Except Shanaka). And as a team I was planning to start it yesterday but again due to players wanted a break we postponed it by 3 more days.
Regarding practice, we’ve been playing –Captain Mode collecting the people from Team WDF and TXC since 3 months ago. I’m not going to comment about WDF, but some of my team members don’t take this seriously, it’s like another PUB game for them. I don’t think my team needs to improve skill vice but boozing vice. I’m hoping at least after seeing this they might be able to fix them self’s’.
“So far I’m the team-leader I cannot force them to play all I can do is tell. But the need and want should come out by them self’s”
How many hours of practice do you get, as a team, a day or a week?
Depends on when they want to booze, however recently myself and shanaka have been playing more than 8hrs a day with some of my Malaysian friends.
Rest of the team, May be 3 hours a day, 12 hrs per week.
Have you guys been engaging in any RDC-specific practice sessions to ready up for the tourney?
Well we just brought our own VPS-Server (Singapore host-bot) and we do plan on having games against Singapore or banagala everyday. Other than that nothing has been decided yet. Some of my Mets just got down from India after spending 3 days of traveling and playing a LAN tournament at 3am. So I guess we need to meet up first and decide.
Who are the international DOTA teams that you respect the most?
Recently iv been stopped focusing on international and just being paying attention to Asian teams. Because I believe Asia has the best teams. And i respect most of the Chinese teams and few Malaysian such as, E-home, LGD.SgTy , KS-LGD , Deity , Nirvana My/CN and ect.
Who's your favorite DOTA player in the international DOTA arena? Or players?
Well I’m a fan of all of the top Chinese team players. There is no specific but all of them play amazing. Specially the players in E-home.,
Given the mixed performance of TOX1C when sent for last year's WCG and in lieu of a team being sent for SOACG, do you think now is the right time to take Sri Lankan DotA to the international arena? Do you think our boys are ready?
I think the right time was last year; we did have Malaysia and Vietnam in our group who were the best then. And we did give Vietnam(ACG Winners ) a good fight on stage where we didn’t for MY. In my opinion DOTA isn’t like CS in the country there are more than 120 people online on Garena playing but I don’t think there are players who are willing and able to go on a competitive level yet.
Since 2004 where I started playing D-O-T-A, we did win the first tournament which was held and winning more than 20 tournaments up to now. Back then there was G-Hut for a good fight but now so far as I say there is no-team for a good competition. It’s just a complete one sided pawnage.
Why? Because they do not have the need to play as a team and improve to beat us, they think it is impossible to beat us where they have no-idea about international DOTA-scene at all .All I have to ask is there is still time to improve ull just need to put some effort to climb the ladder.
Have you learnt anything new from the last time you were sent out for a big tournament like this?
Iv always been learning new things but I’m sure that individual learning doesn’t help the team. In order to achieve something the rest needs to learn as well.
Many of the TOX1C players are still studying or are working. And you're studying if I'm not mistaken? Do you find it difficult to balance competitive gaming, practices and your studies/work?
I’m doing my degree at A.P.I.I.T and I don’t find it difficult at all since I’m able to manage my time well. I do spend minimum 8 hrs a day on gaming (playing / Analyzing replays).
None of my team works but studies, as for Shanaka idk are u even studing? All I hear is bunking lectures and flirting.
Venom-HRM bla bla bla hes doing his degree at Singapore. All I know is he appears on time and thanks to u for playing with us even it is late for u. I’m sorry and I always try to set things early but u know ppl don’t appear as soon as I expect.
And the Rest- Studying + Spending competitive boozing at sports pub xD
Shoutout- I hope all of you read this and fix your self’s already, I do remind you guys every day that we are only having a month more. Less Z-z-Z more action!
And special Thanks to Blade (Tharindu) for putting effort and checking on us everyday. I don’t think there will be anyone else who would do it. I have no other words for u and I appreciate it a lot. Thanks a lot to you.
