When we organise SLCG, we put everything (financially and otherwise) into the event itself, and give lower priority to prizes. Steelseries products were given to the Counterstrike 1.6 winners based on the sponsors decision. I don't want to speak on behalf of them, but from their point of view CS is the most popular game in the country (highest number of registrations too) which is why they chose it for the prizes.

This is not a case of the organisers favoring one game over the other. And no, we don't make a profit from SLCG - like I said, we put everything we have into the tournament.

90k which wasnt from  SLCG organizers. Too bad the sponsors preferred CS. The CS players get a nice bonus and in typical SL style, everyone just gets green. Shame.

Who wouldnt be green when all you get is a magazine subscription ? 90k vs a magazine subscription is good reason to get green blood.

When a team reaches the final stages they would be spending at least 30 hrs at the venue itself. Gamers do have other obligations like work and studies. The prizes should be worth while for time and money they spend at the venue.

I expected this earlier when organizers didnt reply to any query regarding prizes. So PeRks was expecting to go empty handed anyway.  :(

Its true that organizers have to go ahead with the sponsor decisions. But what ever said and done SLCG is over and hope we can see a better tourney with good prizes next year.

The point of SLCG is to have fun, isnt it? If you don't want to spend that time at the venue, why are you participating? I had other obligations (studies) so I didnt come. Anyone else who had any similar obligations was free to make the same decision. I for one would have loved to spend 30 hours at SLCG.

Who wouldnt be green when all you get is a magazine subscription ? 90k vs a magazine subscription is good reason to get green blood.

Theres no such thing a a "good" reason to get green. A sponsor simply decided to give a collosal prize out of goodwill and all you can do is get jealous? They weren't obliged to give anyone anything, and yet they donated this prize. If all you can do is get jealous, thats your loss.

They say the Sri Lankan hell is the only one that doesnt need guards since whenever anyone tries to climb out, the others pull him back down. I guss we now have proof.

We are sorry that you'll aren't happy with the prizes you'll got (Rs. 10,000 worth of prizes). But we have always given priority to the actual event over individual prizes in our tournaments, and it is very likely that we always will.

SLCG isn't the largest tournament in SL because of it's prizes... it is so because SLCG is a fun event for everyone, and that is what we wanted to concentrate on. I understand opinions may differ, so let's agree to disagree and put this issue to rest.

It's not always the prizes that matters to every one at SLCG and as the organizers profits aren't a priority to us too. This is Sri Lanka and there are so many issues to go through to host an event like SLCG and to be honest we went through hell this time compared to SLCG '08 and still managed to give the best experience to most players. From SLCG '08 to SLCG'09 we made a lot of improvement and managed to convince companies to come forward and sponsor nation's best CS team. In time we will do our best to get every upto the standards we expect to. Bare with us in the mean time please.

Well said. I don't see the point of crying over not getting prizes. SLCG was the the most fun tournament I've been to.
