Hmmm, gamer network cards? I did a quick google, and the main feature of this card seems to be a NPU that does the network related crunching, and to take strain off the CPU. Now, I'm no electrical engineer, but does networking really drain the CPU that much? I mean, we're talking about high end processors here, right? Athlon X2s or Core 2 Duos? At that clock speed, I fail to see how handling some ethernet transfer is going to affect system performance.

Remember, TCP/IP hasn't changed much in the last two decades, and there is very little you can do on the client side to make data transfer faster. Also, even if the Killer does make data transfer faster by having a dedicated processing unit for related calculations, my guess is that this speed difference would only noticable when playing online. Thus, on our local bw, it's kinda redundant anyway, no? If all you wanna do is LAN party, then your average onboard NIC should be just fine. :)

I'm not discouraging you from trying out this card, but I can think of better uses for 179.99$. Like more ram? :D

I agree,i think it will be only useful if you are gonna hold a gaming tournament, running a game like battlefield 2142 with 64 players.

well well well
after much reading. asking, chatting n more reading i figured out that this thing actualy does do some fair bit of good for online gaming
around 25 - 30% incre frame rate on a 1280 x 1024 on a Core 2 Duo. wat do u knw network game does give the cpu some headache it seems.
altho im not sure if its around around 250AUD. considering im gona get a Quad core Q6600. i could probably invest that 250 into the gfx n get a XFX 8800gt.

That's pretty incredible. Got any links to benchmarks done by toms or other popular sites?
