What's with the GPU price hike ?
« on: March 01, 2018, 09:18:48 am »
Not that I am looking to buy a graphics card anytime soon. But noted GTX 1060s priced at 75k both at Redline and Nanotek. Those cards used to sell at 55 odd. It's alarming and makes you fear for future purchases.

Memory prices have increased significantly over the past 18 months. It has finally caught up with graphics card prices. Flash storage will be next.

This will probably kill PC gaming. You can buy a PS4 Pro for less than 70k.

Won't be long before console prices increase as well.

I heard this increase is because of a GPU shortage as more and more people are buying GPUs for mining. I also heard theres some new Nvidia graphics cards coming really soon. wondering if that could decrease GPU prices at least a little.

Price increase is due to memory shortage. Low availability is due to mining.

This has somehow made the 1060gtx which i bought in 2016 one of the best purchases ever as the value hasn't ever depreciated. But i fear for the future.

Don't think so...GPU prices are rising because of the popularity of cryptocurrency mining (esp. for AMD GPUs). If anything, console prices will drop further and [sadly] kill PC gaming
