Gamer.LK's vision for Sri Lankan eSports News
« on: February 14, 2018, 12:03:43 pm »
Gamer.LK's primary goal is to bring Sri Lankan eSports to a world standard - in terms of tournaments, skill level and participation numbers. We see news coverage of the local scene as a major part of this journey. We believe the accurate reporting of eSports news in a local context is a must in order to bring a legitimacy to eSports that it lacks currently.

Globally, the eSports scene has grown to a level where tournament results, rankings and cyber-athletes are covered in detail for their fan bases. For example, this is the front page the ESPN eSports website today:

While other eSports nations have extensive coverage and news portals to cover their local scenes, Sri Lanka was severely lacking any proper coverage of ours. News was limited to rumor and social media gossip. No official news sources were available for citation, and thus no major publication would cover eSoprts. We at Gamer.LK had noted this as a major pain point and listed it as a priority to create awareness of local eSports, both to fans and outsiders. As Gamer.LK and the local eSports scene grows, we are in the best position now to create informative news coverage on local eSports happenings for the community.

We kicked off our new eSports News initiative this week with an article on a player transfer that took place recently. We did our best to give a voice to both parties involved, and felt it was a fair and factual report on the transfer. As always, the community gave us very strong feedback about the coverage and how they feel about it which we are grateful for. We read each and every comment that is posted on our pages, be it on this website or our social media pages - so we encourage constructive feedback. This is the start of a movement which we plan on taking forward with the community's guidance - polishing and refining as we go. If you feel strongly about local eSports and the reporting of it - join us! We are always on the lookout for writers who can objectively report on local eSports happenings in a fair and balance manner.

Our News team looks forward to bringing you more great coverage of the Sri Lankan eSports scene!

Gossip LK :D

Not at all. We're modelling it on ESPN eSports - www.espn.com/esports

Gossip = casual discussion of false facts about people. Which part of Thunder's article is false? We'd like to correct it if there is any mis-representation. Let us know. However based on feedback, we will work towards setting a better tone in future articles.

Nothing is wrong but gossip also means that the facts are not yet confirmed, just like in your article. Plus it also means that you are involved in someone else's private information. So which part applies and which part doesn't is up for you to decide but we can clearly see the motive.

It has come to a point where GLK is like washing dirty linen in public. Specially with this scenario. There's a lot which you guys might not know and this article is firing up the old disputes TM had with PnX which we don't want to continue. And it's a cheap move to get in to community with such a move to get publicity. If this is news why didn't you start with ongoing GCWL? Is it because nobody cares about GCWL and the only way to get someone's attention is to get some "news/gossip" rotating?

Anyhow if by any chance any sort of arguments or any kind of issue it will be directly pointed at you and we hold no responsibility. I'm telling you that before hand. Because this whole issue had been a menace and this article is fueling it.

If you can tell us which parts of the article are unconfirmed, I can ask the news team to take some action.

Fueling an issue is not our intention at all - reporting on a player transfer shouldn't fuel anything. How it was reported is standard industry practice. Also, there was no private information published here - please correct me if I'm wrong. Player X transferred from Clan A to Clan B, and the reasons behind it. Work with us to correct the article is there's any false information, or any private information that shouldn't be published - I will make sure our news team works with your clan to sort it out.

Player transfer articles happen all the time in international eSports coverage, from traditional sports coverage to small eSports websites.

Here's an article by The Score Esports reporting on a key player being kicked/leaving an organization to join another.
https://www.thescoreesports.com/lol/news/4600-doublelift-released-by-clg-acquired-by-tsm

Here's one more of that same player, planning to join another organization according to sources.
https://www.thescoreesports.com/lol/news/15417-sources-doublelift-to-join-team-liquid

The point I'm trying to get across is that these kinds of articles are being written all the time in international eSports.  :)

I only have just the one problem with this. Why not ask the player himself about what actually happened? Was he unavailable?
The devil is not so black as he is painted.
