New Titles Emerge, New Champions Crowned
« on: August 21, 2017, 03:38:20 pm »
Organized by Phoenix GaminG and the ICBT HND Networking Batch 15 (Spectre), GamerFest '17 kicked off Saturday morning, 12th of August at the ICBT Campus Auditorium. Powered by Sri Lanka Telecom and the strategic partnership of Gamer.LK, the event showcased a wide variety of team and individual games for participants to compete in and come through victorious.

This year's GamerFest paved the way for a range of returning and brand new team and individual titles.

Team Games
  • Overwatch
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • DOTA 2
  • League of Legends
  • CS: GO
Individual Games
  • FIFA 17
  • Tekken 7
  • Injustice 2
  • Project Cars

This event served as the introduction of 2 new titles to the fighting game genre: Tekken 7 and Injustice 2, a welcome change to the 2 year reign of Mortal Kombat X on the local competitive front. Unfortunately, CS: GO was cancelled due to lack of participants and Project Cars due to time restraints.

GamerFest was held in three ways. The DOTA, LOL, and COD draws had online qualifiers, with the semifinals and final stages being played on LAN. The Overwatch event was played entirely online, whilst all single player titles were played offline at ICBT.

The Tekken 7 tournament saw the inclusion of exhilarating and informative shout casting performed by Binura and Morpheus, adding to the overall hype of the event whilst educating the spectators on the mechanics of the game as the matches progressed. The Injustice 2 tournament brought in older Mortal Kombat X competitors as well as newer players, duking it out to be crowned as Sri Lanka's first Injustice 2 champion. FIFA 17 managed to attract the most number of entrants, with Phoenix GaminG maintaining a dominant run throughout.

On the multiplayer side, we were in for a treat for the grand finals of COD 4, with a nail biting set between two of n00b Alliance's elite teams, with a final score of 13-8 in favor of Team Spite. The League of Legends finals showcased the most dominating run of PnX|Lanka Lions.MSI, maintaining their dominance to a well deserved win without a single loss throughout the entire tournament. The DOTA 2 event displayed an extremely one-sided grand final set between PnX|Indomitus.MSI and nA.Infinity Gaming, with both games lasting around 30 minutes each.

Overwatch was held online entirely, with reigning champions x3.NoobsWithAttitude (NwA) competing against several other teams as well. They managed to put some exciting matches on display, defeating PnX|Syndicate to win their first GamerFest Overwatch title.

The fun didn't just last on the big screens, as GamerFest gave participants and spectators the opportunity of winning themselves 10GB of free data for their SLT broadband connections by answering game-related questions asked at random periods throughout the day.

Results

The following players and teams ended up victorious at the end of the day.

Overwatch
Winner- x3.NwA.GIGABYTE
Runner-up- PnX|Syndicate.MSI

COD 4
Winner- nA.Team Spite
Runner-up- nA.Phase 2.0

DOTA 2
Winner- PnX|Indomitus.MSI
Runner-up- nA.Infinity Gaming

League of Legends
Winner- PnX|Lanka Lions.MSI
Runner-up- PnX|Sleeping Forest.MSI

FIFA 17
Winner- PnX|SharpShooter.MSI
Runner-up- PnX|Venom.MSI

Tekken 7
Winner- PnX|Grimmjow.MSI
Runner-up- PnX|Morpheus.MSI

Injustice 2
Winner- x3.ZOMBI3.GIGABYTE
Runner-up- PnX|Morpheus.MSI

With that, GamerFest '17 concluded, attracting an influx of newer players, solidifying existing and newer rivalries, and showcasing the best of e-sports action Sri Lanka has to offer.

Before putting articles why don't you guys properly settle the prizes and certificates or whatever you promised to give the winners? As Overwatch winners we are yet to receive anything and the response from admins are utterly disappointing. It has been more than a week and they are asking us to wait and when asked for updates we are ignored like they don’t give a damn. Your internal problems are not players’ concerns. Next time before you run a tournament make you have everything prepared and ready. Otherwise just please don’t do it! You can save a lot of time by not doing anything. PLEASE!

However, CSGO and Project Cars had to be cancelled at the last minute from the tournament making it only 7 competitive titles to take part in.

CS: GO and Project Cars were cancelled due to time restraints and lack of participants.
GLK Article

Project cars players waiting from the event start time to 9 p.m and organizers searching for account at around 7 p.m and informing players that project cars tournament is cancelled is what you call "time restraints and lack of participants"? get your facts right guys!

And please write correct and un-biased articles. expecting better things from GLK articles.

when so called relevant organizers are sleeping and ignoring us I thought the "STRATEGIC PARTNER" would stand up and do something about it. I guess I was so wrong. Everyone just wants to bail out

Please read my previous replay again! dont be යන්නේ කොහෙද මල්ලේ පොල්

concern here is not the performance and who wrote the article its the definition of "time restraints and lack of participants".

LAN event day organizers didn't told any Project cars player that they had less participants, they just told yes we are keeping the tournament every time when players asked whats happening. And at around 8 p.m organizers have cancelled project cars. And if GLK is reporting that as lack of participants then there is a big problem.

there can be issues in tournaments but write it correctly and give the correct picture to the community. if you read ReadMe article they have added the same part in a graceful way.

definition of "time restraints and lack of participants".
According to the writer, what he meant was CS:GO was cancelled due to lack of participants and PC was called off because of time constraints due to the venue being unavailable after a particular time.

P.S - Replied on request of the writer. He himself will give you a clarification shortly!

Even though the article was approved, there seems to be a misunderstanding in what was stated due to the way it was written. It has been fixed now. Apologies for the confusion and thank you for pointing the detail out.

Yes, people who went to the event know about the venue unavailable issue, because of that only Injustice 2 loser bracket last few matches were played Bo1 while rest was played bo3. Clearly promotional titles were given priority over Single player Ranked titles.

but here are some questions,
1. Venue unavailability came around 8 p.m on the event day, but event started in the morning, so what is writer trying to say?
2. Organizers waited till last min to search for an account and told the players that project cars canceled. from writers point of view its "venue being unavailable after a particular time"? isn't it "organizers were not prepared and had to be cancelled at the last minute" ?

Writer can collect his facts and reply  (Y)

If you guys introduce new titles with cash prizes promised, better follow it up. The Overwatch winners aren't yet to get the promised rewards with no responses from the organizers.

As a referee of Gamer.lk, injustice 2 'Was not' a ranked title. Tekken 7 was, along with the others. Single player ranked titles were given priority while injustice 2 being the promotional title, had to be done after the ranked titles were done with.
Thanks.

Well, my concern is why project cars were not given priority? that's also a Ranked title.

See I'm not trying to blame anyone here, Organizers plan things and things might not go according to their plan. But when you put details into an article you should always give the correct picture to the community, without putting a whitewash details like " lack of participants" when clearly people stayed from the morning (10 a.m.) of the event until the organizers cancel the event around 8 p.m.

I'm a GLK Referee myself and I'm pretty Sure Tekken 7 is not a Ranked title. Therefore Project Cars must be prioritized before Tekken 7 and Injustice 2. The decision to either keep or cancel Project Cars should have been taken earlier to minimize the time wasted by competitors. I understand practical difficulties arise in tournaments and planning ahead is hard. Still making a player stay the whole day from the morning till nightfall and telling him the title is cancelled at the last moment is unacceptable.
And even though Injustice 2 is also a promotional title the registration fee remains the same and must be treated equally as Tekken 7 since both are promotional titles. Organizers should have planned ahead and must have a rough idea about the schedule and time constraints. Promoting single player titles while the competitors have to wait a whole day not knowing when the matches will start is demoralizing for the players participating.
Pheonix gaming needs to give a proper answer to NwA regarding their cash prizes. This is a really small issue and I hope they understand the frustration of NwA regarding this matter. Please provide a proper answer to NwA and finalize the tournament.
