Buying a Freesync monitor
« on: May 24, 2016, 08:04:20 pm »
Thinking about buying a 144hz gaming monitor with freesync support. The only one I can find is Asus MG278Q 144Hz in Redline and it cost a fortune since It's QHD.

Did some research and found this http://gaming.benq.com/gaming-monitor/xl2430t and is there anyway that I can find this one in SL or at least Import from USA? Already contacted Kapruka and they are not bringing monitors. Thanks in advanced.

That Benq monitor will cost you around 80k. You're better off spending the extra 15k for the Asus.

80k? I was thinking it'll be around 60k.I don't mind something like this as well http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_img_9?ie=UTF8&refRID=17VEJH7V1H1DQDX3R2T5

The thing is I'm planing on buying a new Graphics card as well when AMD Vega is out so 90k is bit much for me at this time.

That'll probably be around 60k. If you are planning on dropping 100k+ on a graphics card, It'll be wasted on a 1080p panel. Even a card like a R9 390 can handle 2K games at 50+ FPS easily (we tried a few days ago), so something like a R9 480X for around 60K would do nicely.

Yeah I get your point but I want to play on 100+ FPS. It will be harder to achieve on a QHD monitor unless I have a SLI/Crossfire setup. That is one of the reason I'm considering 1080p monitor.

When It comes to the video card it'll all depend on price/performance ratio so I will wait for Vega to come out then will decide between vega and polaris.

I dunno why you would wanna play all games at 100+ fps when u have freesync. I would only aim for 100+ fps if i want to play a first person shooter @ multiplayer. For all other games you would want max image settings + variable sync.

Gsync has the advantage of having a better variable sync range than freesync atm but its also more expensive.

Nvdia always cuts corners with their gfx cards than AMD does and usually the AMD counterpart will have better performance in the long run(This is my experience with using both vendors cards)

2560x1440 resolution is quite nice and you can switch it down to 1920x1080 when you want to without getting the significant blurring like you get when switching a 1080p to a lower res.

Been a competitive Battlefield 4 player I need all the FPS that I can get and I rarely play other games.
Since AMD freesync has the Low Framerate Compensation and so on I don't think Gsync has the advantage anymore and when it comes to DX 12 AMD ahead of nvidia even with GTX 1*** series.

Alright, 1080p + tn for you then :D
Get the XG2401 or the XG2701(This has the best freesync range imo)

Gsync still has the advantage of having the ability to drive a 2k IPS display from 30-165Hz. While with freesync only the Eizo FS2735 has a dual mode range of 56-144Hz and 35-90Hz and iirc very expensive atm.

As I said before you get a lot more performance out of AMD in the long run than Nvdia.

For more info abt freesync monitors click here and scroll down and click on monitors tab.

Also check sites like tftcentral for good reviews and info.

Rajiv from Eglobe can help you get one down.

Thanks mate. dat Eizo monitor doe  :-* :-*

If you're OK with a 24" display, just buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-star-DP2414LED-Full-HD-Gaming-Monitor-24-144Hz-Multi-Port-DVI-HDMI-RGB-/221822308188?hash=item33a5a3cf5c:g:51cAAOSwjVVVn4j-

Or this:

And if you want something bigger, here's a 28" 120Hz display:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-CrossOver-F28LED-28-1920x1080-FHD-16-9-MVA-HDMI-Over-Clock-120hz-Remote-/222006528324?hash=item33b09ec944:g:6o4AAOSwa-dWpxdJ

Boom. Done. You're welcome.

Thank you. But none of them have freesync though. :)

Hi there, the point of having freesync is that you don't have to upgrade your video card every so often. Since they introduced LFC, it's even better now as long as you have a capable monitor. I have a freesync panel and a couple of things I'd like to point out : only supports dx9 10 and 11. No 12 or open gl or Vulkan support yet. It's on the way apparently. God knows when. I have 2 290's and even one of them is enough to keep a solid 40+ in most games, maybe not something like the witcher 3.  But then LFC comes in to play and saves the day. Never dips below 30 frames. There is a major difference between 100hz and 30 with freesync on, but it  only affects really fast paced fps games or something like rocket league. If you're into games like hitman or the witcher, you'll do just fine. This is what I learned thru my experience. Hope it helps to make a Decision. At the end of the day, freesync is a great great technology to have.

Edit: my resolution is 2560x1440. And didn't see your priority was battlefield. Then yeah go for the most fps as you can. Makes a big difference freesync on or off. Imo, the backlight strobing most high end monitors have is even better for BF. That's what I use, since that turns off freesync anyway. My monitor is a Benq xl2730z FYI.

Precisely why I went with the Benq and I needed freesync limit to be 144hz. :)

Thanks for the response. If I buy a monitor now I want to use it for at least another 5 years. That's one of the reason for me to look for a freesync monitor so I don't have to worry about later on. I might go for a QHD monitor just for that reason.

You have a great monitor and I have my eye on that too. Where did u get that monitor and how much was it if you don't mind me asking. Thanks again.
