No more cracked games in two years?
« on: January 08, 2016, 03:49:08 am »
Apparently, one particular kind of DRM protection persists in giving more and more headaches to game crackers. If you wonder why there's still no working pirated release of Just Cause 3, look no further:

Quote
It is kind of a good warning, but Chinese cracking forum 3DM is warning that given the current state of anti-piracy technology, in two years there might be no more pirate games to play.

The claims come after attempts to breach the Denuvo security protecting Just Cause 3 pushed the group's cracking expert to breaking point.

One of the hottest topics involves the Avalanche Studios/Square Enix title Just Cause 3. Released on December 1, 2015 and despite massive demand, the game has still not been cracked. The problem appears to lie with the robustness of the technology protecting the game.

Just Cause 3 uses the latest iteration of Denuvo, an anti-tamper technology developed by Denuvo Software Solutions GmbH. While its secrets are best known to its creators, Denuvo is a secondary encryption system which protects existing and underlying DRM products.

In 2014 the product made the headlines after successfully protecting Dragon Age: Inquisition for almost a month, a very respectable time in cracking circles.

In the end it was Chinese cracking group 3DM that brought down that instance of Denuvo but the Austria-based company continued to tweak and achieved increasing protection periods on recent games in the FIFA series. FIFA 16 is currently Denuvo protected and that game still hasn't been cracked, despite being released in September.

But Just Cause 3 is the current hot potato and despite having released an endless supply of cracks for other titles (and having had success against Denuvo in the past), the cracks (excuse the pun) are beginning to show at 3DM.

If you know where to look(and I am not talking about grey market sites like kinguin or g2a) there are plenty of places to get pc games very cheaply now which btw are fully legit as well, so yeah building monster rigs and saying we are not rich enough to buy games is not a valid excuse anymore.

Besides if you like a game so much then what's the harm in giving few bucks to devs to support them :)

Well I know my parents would not have bought me a game if it was 3-4k when I was young. Then I would not have fallen in love with gaming.
Im trying to shift towards legit games now(proudly own 5 now), still for a university student with no real income, other then pocket money its a pain.
I believe most legit PC game owner here would have pirated games when they were young and penniless

Back when I had Playstation 1, my dad buys me a game every two years, when he goes overseas that is. I had to live up with a Formula One game for almost 2 years, playing it day and night. I even forgot how to change disc when I got a new game (Crash Bandicoot) cuz that game was there in the console for almost 2 years. maan good times haha.

Anyway back to the topic:
3DM is one of the elite cracking groups, they just got tired with the new technologies or scared of the legal issues they will be facing. As long as there are anti-piracy programs, there will be also resistance piracy group working against it. Up to date there there is no such DRM's that are unbreakable by the cracking group.
All the dev's should learn a lesson from CD Projectkey, they are awsome they just dont give af about DRM's. They even admitted no matter what kinda anti-piracy measures companies try to do, people will always try to break it.

Sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't meant to and that excuse is the usual excuse I see from lots of people here and lots of my friends as well :| great to see more people going legit :)

Thing is this news is just hyperbole imho, every game in future won't use Denuvo and there still will be options plus there are loads of old games with cracks as well, just some major releases might use Denuvo and that's it. So all in all any kid who is getting into gaming shouldn't have a problem even in a 3rd world country like ours where its hard to afford games at full price. Thing is I admit did lots of pirating when I was small and didn't even knew about legit gaming until around 2011-12, but difference is once I came to know about it and the options I have I moved to legit gaming and haven't pirated a game since 2013. If I can't afford it at the time instead of just robbing the devs I wait for a good sale where I can afford it :)

Also same here, 23 year old Uni student from a middle class family atm without a job :p if you have enough passion for gaming as a hobby and cares about it finding money won't be that hard imho :)

good news indeed. but its not the end of all piracy. this will get cracked sooner or later. the Germans thought that Enigma is unbreakable but in the end it was not.
