I was going to buy the base game which retails for about $39 I think, and ROS is about $59.99 since it's fairly a new expansion,  I paid $59.99 for both. Bloody fun if you got a consistent connection

is the game any better now? than what it used to be initially? do they still have the in-game auction store and all? i was waiting for this game for 12 years and it was a huge let down. hear it has improved a lot now.

Diaablo 3: Reaper of Souls is very good from what I've read. But don't have that much money to spend on purchasing original games right now

I have not come across the auction house,  thought that was removed sometime back. They release a new patch every couple of months but that brings major changes (check out differences between 2.2 and upcoming  2.3), it's a polished title, no complaints from me, you just need a consistent connection to play the game, I get disconnected since I use a Hotspot connection and I lose all Adventure mode stats, but you get to play it again without no loss to items or xp gained. I hear it's more friendly on consoles, will get the next tittle from blizzard on PS4 for sure

Quick question: my friend got me a copy from USA. Wonder whether I'd face any problems when activating the key?

check if its a US key, the game is now global but characters are region locked
