Starting a new game cafe [ADVICE PLS]
« on: December 23, 2014, 12:29:18 pm »
I thought of starting a new game cafe along with an internet cafe. My father is a retired custom officer, he is so bored to stay at home so I gave him the idea. Well it was good idea. But I really don't know very much of how to and the way to start this.

It'll be in Panadura, our area, there are gamers here but no major gaming cafe therefore no place to play LAN. So Panadura is a good area to start with.

I would like to know about the PCs to be used(specifications), consoles, displays, ACs, gaming equipments, headsets about monthly or occasional competitions to be organized. Please Help soon cause we thought of starting it in very near future like January, February and March.

I thought of starting with 10 PCs and 2 PS3s with two mid range projectors for team matched and competitions.

This is what I found after searching ikman.lk for decent PCs. If a more advanced PC can be build for this price please post that too.

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz 6M 1333MHz E8400
Intel ECS G41T-M (LGA775) Mother Board (Quad Core support)
2GB DDR2 Hynix 800MHz (2GBX1 Single Channel,Max Support 8GB)
250GB SATA Western Digital Hard Drive
DVD R/W Light scribe
Hyper 4 Core pipe CPU Cooler and Extra Cooler Fan
5.1 HD Audio
Intel HD Graphics 256MB (Shared 768MB)
450W Hi-end Power plus Gaming Power Supply

Imported Grate Condition Parts and assemble by brand new
DELUX Tower Casing
3 Month Warranty

I thought of installing COD4, Dota 2, CS:GO, LoL,Most Wanted and MW3. Any buy newer games for the two consoles.

And also give give your thoughts about the hourly charge(Ex:Rs.80,100).

Please help soon!!!

http://ikman.lk/en/core-2-duo-30ghz-6m-g41-pc-for-sale-gampaha-31 is the link of the PC I thought of.

The games you plan to install are going to struggle, while dual core is tolerable, 2gb DDR 2 and no external GPU will makes games like dota 2, cs go have really bad fps and mw3 won't even run and i doubt COD4 will without any type of external GPU.

Since your cafe will bring gamers together, you shouldn't make them think "this is unplayable, i'll rather play at home"

I think you should go for 4gb ddr 3 and perhaps a cheap card like gt 610 ?

Also how do you plan to install Cs go, it isn't free to play like dota 2 and each computer requires a person to own it to play it. Or are you going with pirated one ?

I think you should start with pcs and bring in consoles later.

@Shadow Returns, so I get with this computer you cannot play games on better fps, so give a recommended machine for this type of gaming.

And also other gamers please help by adding ur thoughts about a decent pc for these games.

Talk to Red line or E globe solutions for a proper gaming machine, your quote looks pretty bad. Ditch the cooler and get a external vga, not sure what you should get but am sure these sellers can help you out. Where is Panadura are you planning to set this up ?. I live there too.

@Delux dad said there are 2 places, one near the Pizza hut (that old Pharmacy or Dispensary), one near the private bus stand near the IDM computer classes.

And by the way I have not decided the PC yet. So give ur idea of a machine to be used. And REDLINE and E-globe solutions I look forward in ur ideas of the machines to be used.

And I like to know about gaming keyboards, mice and headsets for cheap price

@Delux

And REDLINE and E-globe solutions I look forward in ur ideas of the machines to be used.

And I like to know about gaming keyboards, mice and headsets for cheap price

You'll be wasting your time and theirs if you ask for quotes and find you can't afford anything on offer - I highly doubt (but could be wrong) that you'll get anything substantial under 20k per machine. Also, if I were you I'd meet them in person and discuss this - face to face interaction goes a long way in terms of building relationships.

I suggest you look at how much money you've got to invest overall and then ask for quotes - by the sound of things you'll probably want to ask your suppliers to give you a price for the cheapest possible PC's that can run the above games. Don't forget to ask what room there is for upgrading if there's demand for newer games to be run.

Running a business like this isn't just about setting some computers up and hoping it'll work - you've got to account for equipment repair (on site warranty?), UPS's, staff, rent/lease, electricity, internet and myriad other costs that add up. Either way  - good luck - as a small business owner myself, I really hope you succeed!    (Y)

Next to Pizza hut sounds good. But you can get all the kids who go for classes if you set up shop near the bus stand. Not sure what a cafe machine spec should be, as said above may be you should visit the shop owners and talk things through.

SLT is the only usable ISP for something of this calibre. And stay away from Armageddon keyboards and mice :P

So now I have found some decent PCs for the job from Redline(I'll visit u next week or week after that) and also got an offer from @steeldemon and will go with one of the deals.

So now, I look forward to install CoD 4 as original for all 10 PCs, Dota 2, CS:GO and LoL. I'll be using steam to buy these games. I also thought of installing Unity, Advanced Warfare and Farcry 4 in 2  PCs, and of course original. Guys give ur ideas. Should there be more games other than these, I mean original ones?

And also what about the network switch and cables.

And I also want to know what bandwidth should there be for this along with the use as internet terminals. (85gb or ??)

Please give ur ideas. Thnxx
