R9 280X vapor X shown as HD 7970
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:37:42 pm »
I recently purchased a r9 280x vapor x (triple fan) GPU for my gaming rig. This is detected as an AMD Radeon hd 7970 by the CPUID software. None of the system speccifications show it as a 280x. I know that 280x is an updated version of 7970. But still, how can i get my GPU to be detected correctly? Has anyone else faced the same issue?
Thanx..

it is getting detected properly. R9 280x is a rebadged 7970. the program you are using is probably out of date to recognize it as a r9 280x. either update the application or try a different one. say GPUZ.

There's a bios switch on the top of the card. Press it (it should glow in blue). That switches between the 7970 and 280X bios.

The 280X is one of the best GPUs for your money and VaporX is one of the best coolers under the sun. Winning formula!
