DOTA 2 Download on steam help
« on: September 26, 2013, 11:39:28 pm »
Hey guys i just got my new SLT Home package a few days ago and the first thing I did was install DOTA 2 via steam. I didn't get good speeds (about 150-200KBps) so after a few hours and only 1.7GB downloaded I changed the download region to Singapore and the download restarted again the same thing happened after 3.6 GB out of 3.9GB to doenload it restarted again WTF is this?
I have now exceeded the limit so I'm gonna try again. What download region do you guys use?
Can i download the game without steam but still play with my steam friends?
and lastly the SLT Web Family users, what kinds of speeds do you get with steam downloads? Is this normal?
Sorry for making you guys read a lengthy para  ;D

I use the Singapore server for my DLs on Steam. As for your first issue, I've never come across it so I cant help you there. It is not necessary to download the game through Steam, you can copy it from a friend who has the game already installed. I'm not sure about the speeds but AFAIK it depends on how far you live from the exchange and the line quality.

After you change download region make sure you delete everything you already have downloaded in that game. You can:

1. Pause updating. Right click in Library and then "Delete Local Content". Go to settings and change the download location to LAN Asia or some place. Quit Steam.

2. If not Program Files>Steam>SteamApps>common>dota 2 beta and delete everything. Inside SteamApps>downloading delete everything.

3. Restart Steam as Administrator (Right click, Run as Administrator) and change the download region back to Singapore. After Steam restarts unpause the download and wait for it to complete.

Best you wait till your line gets restored because from what Iv experienced a lack of bandwidth usually causes steam downloads to go crazy. Like random restarts of downloads and invalid game caches.

OR... Just copy the files off someone else.
