GCCL Round 1- Armoured Punks vs Dunksters aftermatch
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:22:32 am »
Yesterday was a very exciting night as the recently formed Dunksters took on the feared Armoured Punks. No one could be certain of the outcome, but one thing was for certain: it was to be a very tense match.

Both teams were hesitant to attack in the knife round. Each waiting for the other to make a mistake. AP mustered up their courage and struck first. DNK fought back valiantly but were defeated. AP chose to head into Terrorists.

AP showed no mercy, as they rushed as one to each bombsite. DNK were forced to take cover as bullets and nades rained upon them.  DNK did manage to wipe out AP on a few occasions, but made one very serious mistake: they failed to buy Defusal Kits. Had they done so, they could have easily grabbed a few victories. Let it be a lesson to all: always, always, make sure at least *half* of the team has defuse kits. It could save your life and win the round…

AP finishes off the first half with ease. The score ending at 12-2.

It appeared as though AP was certain to grab the victory, with only 4 more rounds needed for them to pass. AP, feeling confident they had victory in the bag, made one of the worse mistakes a team could do: they slacked off and took it easy. Yet, DNK was not willing to go down without a fight. Right from the start, they rushed right in, shrugging off AP’s bullets and firing off their own with pin point accuracy. Caught off guard, AP was quickly overwhelmed. They attempted to recover their strats, but DNK had a few of their own hidden up their sleeves:

One memorable strat included having DNK Altair splitting off from the group, to flash the outside area in an attempt to distract AP. It worked as AP began to rush towards Altair. Altair double-timed it back to the lobby and hid in the hut, whilst his team ran straight into the Lower Bombsite. AP, realizing their mistake, their mistake, rushed to get down below…failing however to notice Altair, lying in wait.  Altair managed to take down two members of AP before he too perished.  By this time, DNK had settled in the bombsite, waiting for AP to arrive. AP had no chance and were quickly ambushed.

DNK, pleased by how well their strat worked, began to employ it again and again. AP, unfortunately, was slow to catch on and thus were forced again and again to meet DNK head on with the bomb ticking.  DNK defended the site with skill and prevented any breakthrough by AP. The rounds flew by, with DNK grabbing win after win.

AP, realizing that DNK would continue to use the same strat, decided to counter it. Both teams raced to reach the Lower bombsite first. Clashing at the Ramps, DNK was surprised to see AP rushing the site as well.  Utter chaos proceeded.  Altair added to the destruction as he arrived in time to help the remainder of his team. However AP, with grim determination, tracked them down like hungry wolves on fleeing sheep and ripped them up, limb by limb.

We are now at the last round. A very tense situation, the overall score is at 15-14 for AP. DNK needs to win this round, or be knocked out. AP have their hopes rejuvenated, as they seen victory just one round away. All is silent… with spectators all over Sri Lanka holding their breath.

PREPARE TO FIGHT!

The flag has dropped. Both teams begin their race. AP rush into the ramp room and lie in wait. Nervously clutching their guns, fingers tense on the trigger. The silence presses down on them. Sweat trickles down their neck. And then, the fatal words:

“The bomb has been planted!”

Cursing, AP splits up, half going into the lobby area, with the other half attempting to climb up to the rafters. Their pincer maneuver fails as DNK have already laid out the perfect ambush.   The bomb explodes the match into Overtime.

It is clear that both teams are now extremely nervous. Gladiator and both were encouraging their team, leaving their own fears and uncertainty out of their voice.  Once more , the battle begins. AP as Terror, rush into the ramp room where they meet DNK. A rather quick battle however, ending with DNK defeated.  Not to be discouraged again, DNK show their bravery as they grab 4 victories from AP, ending Overtime and the match with the final score being:  16-15.

Two vital lessons were learnt from this match. Firstly: never forget to buy defusal kits.  200 bucks is a small price to pay for your life and winning the round. Secondly –and most importantly- never, ever get too confident. Even if the score is 14-0, that is no reason for a team to relax. Relaxing lets down your guard and also relaxes the adrenaline that keeps you alert ingame.

The Armoured Punks are knocked out. The Dunksters move on to the next round.
