« on: March 08, 2013, 08:00:49 am »
I want to upgrade my pc audio because my on board realtek audio is worst
I will be only use my pc audio with a inear headphone or with a normal gamming head set
I am also thinking of connecting it to a normal hi-fi audio system

my choices are -
asus xonar dgx
or asus xonar dx

what is best for me?
what is there much different audio quality between those two sound cards?

Both are identical. The DG fits into a PCI slot and the DGX fits into a PCI-E (x1) slot. That The only difference.

The DX is superior but is also more expensive. Currently you can find stock in SL of only the DGX, available for Rs.5,500 with 3 years warranty. If you want a DX, can offer a slightly used one for 9.5K with 2+ years warranty remaining.

yes these sound cards are able to gv u 7.1 virtual. Im using a DG with Fnatic 7H.  before I used the 7H with onboard realtek and I can say with DG the quality is much better, clear sound. awesome surround.

I bought a xonar gdx
and
yes,it has a better sound auality than onboard.
But i don't know how to get the better surround sound from it.
so some one can help me with this by repling the surround sound settigs  and drivers to play movies with multi channel audio.

You don't get big different by your upgrade. I suggest first upgrade to a good Speaker system or High end headset. Just changing to high end card doesn't give you great quality when you have a typical speakers.

Then i think this test was done by set of audiophiles with vast amount of gadget fitted in their ear. For typical environment there is no much different with low quality speaker. First upgrade to good speaker then the card.

No the test was done by me with a cheap Logitech Z313 speakers and a Corsair Vengeance 1300 headset . With the sound card, you notice a big improvement in sound quality and volume. So yes, even with low quality speakers, there is a noticeable difference by using a sound card.

I'm certain you have never used a quality sound card in your life. Otherwise you wouldn't be making that argument. :)

NO i have used creative high end cards before 10 years. That time sound card is must and of course it had huge  improvement in audio quality. Because that was the time onboard audio is emerging. But before 2 year me and our colleagues have tested with creative X-Fi cards we didn't see a huge improvement but i'm not saying different  is not there. But when switching to a high end speaker with on board audio it just improved to vast amount and you don't need to pay attentions to see that different, because it was huge.

Its obvious dedicated cards are there for a purpose. I'm not saying they are dumb. But putting that $$ in to a better speaker system give the more quality than on a card. If some one already own a good quality speaker / headset. Then they wil benefit from dedicated card and it is a good investment.

In simple terms:
Spend ATLEAST   2 time more $$ on speaker than the card you are purchasing to get the different. Please note it at least.Other wise Just change the good speaker first.  Then grab a card from your friend and if you see the improvement you wanted get it..

You cant get virtual surround with stereo speakers. Its physically impossible. Virtual surround is only available with headphones.

to get 5.1 surround u need to set the audio u receive to the card to be 5.1 as well..to do that u need to go to Windows Audio manager & sat the speaker configuration to 5.1..then click on the 5.1 setting on your sound card as well...only then will u get correct 5.1 from your sound card for gaming...also dolby 5.1 is much better than 7.1
