Weired issues in my PC - HELP NEEDED!!
« on: January 26, 2013, 02:48:06 am »
The topic says it all, I've been getting some odd errors recently.. Pics uploaded..  :\

My Specs are..

-Core i5 2400 3.1Ghz Quad Core
-Gigabyte GA-H61MA-D2V (PCI-E 3.0)
-Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II (2GB)
-Corsair Vengance 8GB 1600 Kit
-Seagate Barracude 500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
-Seasonic M1211 500W 80+ Bronze Modular
-AOC 21.5" LED Backlit Monitor

* FYI , when playing Borderlands 2, WRC ,Black Ops and Skyrim, frames do shatter (kind of a glitch or i would say a huge skip) and its definitely not a lag, FPS remain steady.....

* "Ran out of Video Memory" message appears after 1 hour of gameplay in Borderlands 2, just to mention that i didnt have this error before.
* Plays in full HD and almost all settings on (wont mind lowering down AA but lowering more graphics isn't justifiable for a GTX670, isn't it??   :) )

tried Googling the issue but didn't come up with a good solution..
help much appreciated  (Y)

Ran out of memory on a 2GB 670?
It looks like your card might be faulty. First, just remove your RAM / VGA and replug them...sometimes very simple things like dust cause a lot of trouble.

Update your NVIDIA and DirectX drivers to the latest, might fix that and many other issues as well.

it should be the drivers. which version are you using? try the latest 310.90.

fyi, i never got problems playing BL2 even while recording screen for hours. so the 2GB is quite capable of handling that game at 1080p and max details.

That doesn't seems like a real windows error message you getting. just saying video mem ran out? I don't buy it. There are add-ware viruses like that. Did it then said you to update drivers or something like that after exiting the 3d app ??

I've seen this error on occasion, but only playing really new games (Think Far Cry 3) on max texture settings at HUGE resolutions. Even then, that was on a very old 9800 GT 512 MB. It's a legit error: it happens when the card runs out of memory to draw textures onto. But a GTX670 2GB showing that error is....almost impossibru.

First check on that error by re-installing drivers as others said and then try it again after reinstalling OS..
If you unable to solve your error by doing those things you have to check your pc hardware..

For that..
Firstly you can connect your Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II (2GB) card to another pc and check on that error......
If the error remains the vga card is faulty...then you have to replace that vga card...

If the error not happened then your pc has faulty hardware..
Then you have to check all the other main components in your pc except that vga card one by one...

My personal idea is your PSU is not enough for your Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II (2GB).........
It has 225w of maximum power consumption according to ASUS web site.
On the other hand the reference GTX 670 has 170w of maximum power consumption according to NVIDIA GeForce site and it is telling that it needs a minimum 500w PSU is need to run their reference GTX 670 card..

So you can see a "55w" gap between those two cards..
So I think you need a 550w PSU to run this card fine.

I have heard that NVIDIA adds more 100w for safety when recommending the minimum PSU requirement for their VGA cards....but not sure..........
I think you better test your card with another PSU with more than 550w......with better brand (Seasonic is a great brand/ I have a Seasonic 650w Oem psu working greatly over 2-3 years now)
If your PSU can not provide sufficient power to your vga card it may reduce your VGA  cards life span........

I just calculated EdeM Specs by http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine it requires Minimum PSU Wattage: 290 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 340 W

Then 500w is enough to power up the RIG.

According to "eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite"

Motherboard:regular desktop
CPU Brand:intel
CPU Socket:lga1155
CPU:intel core i5 2400 3.1ghz
CPU Utilization (TDP 2):90%
RAM:2 sticks ddr3 sd ram
Video Card 1:NVIDIA GTX 670 (STOCK)
Regular SATA:1 HDD

(only for those components)

I got this for 90% of System Load-
Minimum PSU Wattage:   263 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 313W

and for 100% of System Load with 100% CPU TDP-
Minimum PSU Wattage:   302 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 352w

If you add more components like optical drive, fans ,etc it will rise more than that............(you haven't mentioned them)
On the other hand your vga is not a stock gtx 670 and it needs another 50w of power over reference gtx 670............
If your PSU is old it can not provide the wattage as advertised ......(Capacitor Aging)

So you have to think of those every bit of thing   when you are going to buy a suitable PSU for your system......

Try that "eXtreme Power Supply Calculator" as "GeNuiNE " did ......
(we don't know all of your components working  inside your PC)

My advice is to try it in 100% of load with 100% of CPU TDP.......
Add another 50w for the "Recommended PSU Wattage" mentioned in that PSU Calculator for safety.........
Then you will be good to go.........

Hey,...."GeNuiNE "
I think that you got the same card friend..........(Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II (2GB))
Do you have a problem with it when you are playing those games as "EdeM " mentioned?.........

That PSU is PLENTY for that card, so don't even bother with that.

This appears to be an extreme case of microstutter. Are you running like 16x AA on this?
