« on: May 26, 2008, 06:19:10 am »
Just wondering... Has anyone seen/have an opinion on Cloverfield?

I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen and thought it was one of the best movies of the year (Y)

thoughts?

Well it's basically a Monster movie told through a camera that was found in central park. Think Blair witch project but with a monster. I thought it was awesome as the perspective made the experience very personal and it was far more believable than Godzilla. There's also an extensive Viral marketing campaign (thanks to JJ Abrams ;))  which forces the audience to come to their own conclusions about the story.

I only liked the cinematography, the story itself was nothing special.

Its basically Godzilla from the pedestrian angle.. not much action.. its all "running around scared".. not my type though.. but it is quite unique.. not some thing u see every day.. :P

It was pretty good actually. Normally I'm not a fan of monster movies or horror movies in general (I don't get whats scary about most of these films tbh) but cloverfield is unique in that it focuses not on the monster, but about a group of people who is caught in the mess. The "first-person" perspective only enhanced the immersion for me. Very very tense.

The actual story is pretty run-of-the-mill, but the quality of the dialog and acting was generally okay. Plus Beth is pretty hot, although a bit flat.

Roranometer gives a solid 8/10 (*applause*)

Btw somebody should make a "Rate the last movie you watched" thread as well as a "rate the last game you played" thread.

Actually if you watch the very last scene ( The one where Beth says "I had a good day" or something like that) , in the background you can see something fall from the sky and smash into the ocean.

Conclusion - ALIEMS!
