Sports / Fifa 08 - preview
« on: August 28, 2007, 09:58:55 pm »
Me being the football freak i am found this preview on IGN.

The highlight of that whole preview for me was the introduction of "Be a Pro" mode.

Quote
Well, let's say you want to take control of Leeds striker David Healy. And by take control, we mean complete control. In the new Be a Pro mode, you select any player from a squad and control him the entire match in what is almost like a third-person soccer game. The new camera system will zoom in and out to continually frame your player, the ball and the goal. If Healy is zipping up the field on a breakaway, the camera will zoom in and shake, just like the Gears of War embedded journalist cam.

Cant wait to see this in action. Just when you thought innovation was dead in Fifa they come up with something (hopefully) amazing.

Clans / Clans: Read Me First (How to register a clan)
« on: May 20, 2007, 12:43:47 pm »
Welcome to the Clans section. Each clan has a dedicated section for themselves. If you want to discuss or ask a question regarding a clan, please use the relevant section.

Forming a clan

  • 1) To register a clan on Gamer.LK you need to be a registered member on this website.
  • 2) Once you are registered, create a new thread in this section (Clans) with an appropriate title explaining that you want to create a new clan. This thread will include all details about the clan you want to create (what games the clan will play etc)
  • 3) People interested in joining your clan will post replies on this thread, or contact you privately showing interest. Once you have a new member of your clan confirmed, you will edit the original thread and add the new members name to it.
  • 4) Once you have enough members, you and your clan members will have to decide on a clan name. Once decided, post it on the thread and let everyone know that the name is official.
  • 5) Once your clan has a minimum of 4 members and an official name, contact an admin (via private message or e-mail) to make your clan official on Gamer.LK.
  • 6) A clan will be given a section on the forum only AFTER atleast one clan match has been played by that clan, and a demo of that match sent to a Gamer.LK Admin. This is to avoid cheating clans being registered on the site.

  • 7) An admin will create a new section dedicated to your clan under the 'Clans' section. It is here that you will announce new developments and take part in any public communication within your clan and with other clans (challenges etc). Note that this clan section is NOT private.
  • 8) When being awarded a separate subsection for your clan, a moderator for that section will be chosen from within your clan. Inform an admin of who should be appointed moderator of your clan section. A moderator is someone who has basic control over threads and posts in that section (modify, delete, merge posts etc).

Registering an already active clan on Gamer.LK

To register an already created clan on Gamer.LK, follow steps 4, 5, 6 and 7 outlined above.

All registered clans are eligible for Gamer.LK clan services.

Aliens and Liquid Tiberium ftw.

Finished the GDI campaign last night. Taking a break before I start the Nod campaign so I thought of writing about the GDI campaign while the thoughts were still fresh in my mind (its so fresh that i dreamt about my firehawks pwning the scrin mothership and the juggernauts raping the scrin node...) :D

ACT 1, 11 & 111

The story in these 3 acts revolve around Nod. I found these stages to be very similar to RA2. In RA2 the soviets attack the US and they are caught completely by surprise. The same happens here. Just a switch of names. The missions are also pretty similar. Especially in ACT 1. Recapture the Pentagon and the White House. Didn't we do the same thing in RA2????

The missions in Egypt are pretty cool. Especially the tactical mission with the commando and sniper team. I shall discuss the Kane issue later on. Other than that theres nothing much to speak of in these 3 acts. The real game starts in Act IV & V.

Act IV & V

Remember the hype of a new race? well it ends here. :D

The landscape in Europe seems to be straight of the movie "War of the Worlds". The scrin even have a unit just like the strider from War of the Worlds ... lol. :D Headcrabs (remember HL?) seem to have found their way in CnC3 as well. Though they aren't literally headcrabs they certainly look like them. Oh and the shields ... lol ... straight out of Halo. (remember the shields used by the aliens which deflect blasters?). Overall its pretty decent. But in my opinion they should have been a bit more original.

Didn't have time to review them yet. Will post again when I do.

Well that's all for now. A lot more to write but I hear Kane calling my name :D.

"You cant kill the Messiah"

  ;D ;D ;D ;D

RPG / MMO / Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:40:56 pm »
Awesome is just one word to describe this game. The fact that your actions and choices in the game decide the storyline is sweet. The creators have takes a leaf out of MMO's and added a funky levelling system in which you can choose the powers and skills you want to level. Much like Lineage 2.

Story wise its top notch. Graphics are decent & gameplay is mad fun. For a star wars freak like me, this game was godsend. I still cant get over the variable storyline. :D :D

Oh and also, lightsaber battles are awesome. :D

May the Force be with you!

Sports / Cricket Simulations
« on: March 25, 2007, 12:13:28 pm »
While cricket games are few and far between, the ones that do reach the market are very lacklustre. Either the gameplay is downright pathetic (cricket 2002) or the licensing is a joke (cricket 2007). I've yet to see a complete cricket simulation.

The latest EA release, Cricket 2007, is good in terms of graphics. Speaking on gameplay; the creators have tried to improve on it but its far too easy. The difficulty bar in my opinion is a joke. They should have remained with the 3 settings of easy, medium and hard. In previous version hard actually gave a good game. The licensing is very, very poor. Only England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealend have the real names.  >:(

The best that I've played by far is EA sports cricket 2005. It had a nice balance of gameplay and graphics. It also had the proper names of all internation cricketers!  :P

RTS / TBS / Company of Heroes - Raising the bar
« on: March 25, 2007, 10:42:33 am »
When I first played CoH (Company of Heroes), I was wowed. The visuals were as good as that of an FPS. (I think that was Ravs first reaction as well). And the best part is that the game isn’t all about visuals. Its storyline (which is based on a true story of a soldier), gameplay, sound effects and AI are all top notch. I wasn’t surprised that it received the "best RTS game" award for 2006. CoH has set a new standard for other RTS games to meet. I honestly can’t go back to RTS games with par graphic engines. CnC3 seems to be heading in the right direction. I just hope other RTS games follow suit.

Check out the gallery for CoH screenshots

Sports / Fifa or Winning eleven?
« on: March 17, 2007, 10:40:31 am »
One of the hottest debates in gaming circles.
I personally prefer the EA fifa franchise as it offers an allround expirience. Whereas Konamis Winning Eleven offers great play at the expense of licence and graphics etc. Nothing can beat Fifas Manager mode.
