Game Lounge / Anyone on Warhammer 40K based board gaming?
« on: January 01, 2014, 09:10:57 pm »
Hi people, does anyone on this Forum play Warhammer 40K board games like Dark Vengeance or Horus Heresy? Couple of guys at the Geek club already play custom games and most of the other stuff on everything Table top. Do you guys buy the boxes and paint the figurines? Thats fun when you get into it and you could throw in an expansion or two. Let me know if your into it, getting started with the Warhammer franchise is expensive

Hardware / Peripherals / Help on Gaming Laptop and Origin Downloads
« on: September 30, 2013, 05:51:08 pm »
I've been playing on the 360 and will be switching on to PC for Battlefield 4, Diablo 3 and other new titles. Wanted advice on present hardware available on the market. You can see my proposed build config in my signature section, but I prefer a mobile solution.

Wanted to know how gaming performance was on mobile GPUs ATI 7670M 2GB, GT 740M 2GB, GTX 650M 2GB, GTX 660M 2GB, GTX 760M 2GB and ATI 7970M 2GB or 8970M 2GB on Haswell. I wont use notebookcheck.net and anandtech because I want to get performance details by gamers in SL, I know some of you might have laptops with one of these GPUs so give me your perspective on how games run on native and 1080p res for higher end cards.

The reason why I was interested in a mobile solution is cause I dont have space for another CPU at home, if I build the proposed build it will be in a small form factor. I'm not worried about how good the game looks although I will get the best Lap with mobile GPU possible to at least play on High or Ultra.

To my other point, wanted to know if you register for Origin and how payments are done with card. I bought my codes directly from Microsoft's Live store, so I dont have much experience with PC based authentication for online games on that port.
I know Steam and Origin are two, and I was on Origin when I was on Battlefield 3 for 360, so Battlelog is connected with Origin.

Appreciate your help. Thanks

I'm buying a DSLR in October and was hoping to get some advise from you event and wedding photographers out there.

I want to start off with two lenses first, one macro and one all-purpose. I've had experience with kit lenses like 18-55, 18-105 and 18-135, they are "OK" for my requirements but you wont get the best detail on all occasions from them. I will be shooting from a cropped body, use a pro flash and diffuser plus filters.

Let me know about the hardware you use and recommendations. Your advise is much appreciated

Game Lounge / Legacy Of Kain Reboot
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:19:30 pm »

It looks like a Legacy of Kain reboot could be on the cards. Square Enix registered what would appear to be a Legacy of Kain web domain late last week called warfornosgoth.com. With Nosgoth being the setting of the Kain series it would make sense for the domain to be related to the IP, though whether it means a new entry is actually in development is another matter altogether.

It's been almost 10 years since we last saw the vampire anti-hero Kain, in 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance. In fact, since Square Enix acquired Eidos there hasn't been a single entry in the franchise, so a reboot could potentially be great news.

Game Lounge / Battlefield 3 SL Leaderboards
« on: March 01, 2013, 08:38:05 am »
Hi all, was wondering if you were interested in categorizing gamers who play Battlefield 3 according to skill, there's enough reference and statistical sites around (Battlelog \ Bf3 Stats).

Anyone Sri Lankan can partake and we could refresh the leaderboards every month, which I will be more than happy to over look or work with a group interested.

This thread can be used to collect gametags or profile names, no need for real names but if your alright with that information been available to the public then add that as well.

OR

All interested add me up on Battlelog, my profile name is darthtrav

The leaderboards will be published on this thread each month and will comprise data of Top Score, Highest Playtime , Top Kills and Vehicles

All players will be listed, but the leaderboards will show only Top 10 of each category

I will publish the leaderboards for Feb tonight (listing according Platoons, Clans and friend list on Battlelog)

Cheers to all

Hardware / Peripherals / RAM 4 GB or More?
« on: February 10, 2013, 09:41:01 am »
Researching the topic for future reference and wanted to know by you guys if there is a major performance spike in "games"  if you use more memory? I have a few questions

  • Most games run well on 4GB and is recommended by maker, does increasing the capacity of memory make a big difference?
  • Memory modules come in sets and individual configurations. Is there a difference with 4GBx2 and 8GBx1? performance vise?

Thanks in advance

Handheld Consoles / Killzone: Mercenary
« on: February 01, 2013, 09:08:37 am »
Sony finally has something to show from the upcoming PlayStation Vita FPS, Killzone: Mercenary, in the form of a gameplay trailer. The game, developed by Guerilla Games Cambridge, puts players in the combat boots of a mercenary, with players accepting paying assignments from both ISA and Helghast forces.

The trailer release was accompanied by confirmation of the game's release date: September 17, 2013 in North America and a day later in Europe. Those who pre-order the game have a handful of bonuses to look forward to, including 48 hours of double XP and an in-game cash bonus for those just starting out. Don't be surprised if additional retailer-specific bonuses pop up as well in the months ahead.

Consoles / Killer Is Dead
« on: February 01, 2013, 09:06:25 am »

XSEED issued a press release this morning detailing its 2013 slate, and sure enough, Grasshopper Manufacture's Killer Is Dead is listed among the upcoming titles. Previously confirmed for release in Japan only, we now know for certain that XSEED will publish the game in North America for a summer 2013 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

That's not all for XSEED in 2013, however. Joining Killer Is Dead this summer is the Nintendo 3DS RPG Rune Factory 4. A pair of PlayStation Vita titles will follow in the fall: Valhalla Knights 3 and Ys: Memories of Celceta. Next up, however, is Ys I & II Chronicles, an enhanced remake of the first two games in the series that is set to hit PCs sometime in February.
