I have 4GB Kingston hyper X DDR3 module , i5-3570k processor and  240gb Seagate 600 Sata SSD for sale. I'm from Jaffna. post your offers. I will sell you when I come to Colombo.

Both are used. But working fine without any single hitch.
SSD used for like 3 years (didn't write much as even cache was set to my secondary HDD)
Ram used for 5 years.

i5-3570K processor was used for 5 years.  There is small issue in fan one of the lock but stock cooler is usable. I didn't bother cleaning stock cooler for dust :D

I'd sell individually as well as together.

Hardware / Peripherals / Where to buy Notebook?
« on: November 28, 2019, 10:28:27 am »
I'm planning to buy a notebook to edit my X-T20 24MP Raw files and some non intensive everyday work. Although I will not be editing photos or performing high intensive work all the time, my notebook will be running 11-12 hours everyday with low intensive office work. Photo editing is mostly limited to an hour unless I'm doing a project. This may happen once a month or so only in such day I'll edit picture whole day.  I have a IPS display, kb mouse so screen quality, keyboard quality doesn't matter.

My previous system was a desktop with
Core i5-3570k
2x 4gb ddr3
256gb 2.5in SSD + 1TB Hdd
No dedicated GPU

This system was alright for what I'm doing until it failed motherboard after 6 years. While more speed is welcome this level of performance is enough for me. But I'm ok to buy some more performance unit If that can outlast few more years, considering Editing and other software advancements.

Now I'm planning to move notebook (for various reasons) and my main concern is longevity and stability. I live 7 hours away from Colombo thus frequent repair for notebook is difficult.

I have no intend to play games ever. But I might edit small Full HD video once an year. Even that would be basic cut editing for 5 min or so for personal use or behind the scene footage.

My requirements
Budget : 130 - 195K
At-lest 2 years warranty I would pay bit more If it has 3 years warranty (The seller should have reputable after sales service)
Processor pass-mark score : at-least 8000,  it should be Intel (I'd like newer gen processors)
At least 8GB DDR4 Ram (more preferred)
256GB M.2 SSD
At-least 1TB HDD
Genuine Windows 10

Please mention GPU details  as well. I'd like nVidia over AMD, I'm also ok with non dedicated if the price is low accordingly.

I would also consider mini PC as I already have Display, UPS etc. But in that case the price should be lower than similar performance notebook.

Reputable sellers (with good warranty) are welcome to mention your offerings. Friends can recommend notebooks and place.

Currently Redline is offering 5% discount for all notebooks. I'm attaching two interesting models. Note the pictures are without discount.  I like the asus despite bit over my budget. But it seems they don't have stocks?

Communal Assistance / 2 Pc to one Display KVM suggestion?
« on: January 11, 2017, 07:28:19 am »
I have a powerful desktop which I use for image editing and another mini pc for my office work. I want to use the same display with both computers but I never need to use both computer at the same time. My problem is simple I just want to avoid changing cable every time.

My current setup
My monitor has DVI and VGA ports only
Mini PC has only HDMI

When using my desktop
Just using DVI cable

When using mini PC
I use HDMI cable with HDMI to DVI adaptor plugged in to my monitor. Before I used HDMI to VGA converter cable that was giving lot of trouble. This DVI to HDMI adaptor is working fine as it suppose to be.

As I mentioned above all I need is: I don't want to switch cables.

So which KVM do you recommend me? I have no intention to use both PC at the same time. I may buy a cable but then I have to switch keyboards too..

Communal Assistance / Is UPS really needed to protect PC?
« on: February 15, 2016, 05:26:54 am »
I have a Power tree UPS purchased on 2001. I have been using that until today but replaced battery 2,3 times. Now the battery should be replaced again. What do you guys recommend? ,to change the battery again or the UPS itself as it was purchased 15 years ago?

Assume I don't care about unsaved work. Is UPS really necessary to safeguard PC? I use SSD but still my caching and stuff goes to HDD. I live in wellawatta since December. I'm yet to receive a power cut in Daytime. This was not the case in Dehiwala. Now do I really need a UPS to safeguard my PC? Second If I have to just change the battery as it is cheaper or Change the UPS it self(Considering the age)?

My PSU is FSP Hexa+.  My previous PSU was Silencer mk III got burnt on a lightning while I was in Dehiwala.

Communal Assistance / Who is the culprit Process / Motherboard / PSU?
« on: February 02, 2016, 10:37:29 pm »
My system is 3.5 years old except PSU which is less than a year old. Whole specification is in my signature. I don't play games I use this system to edit my photos and my work which is not worth mentioning because of its low stress.

Problem started like last December that my PC won't give display first time. But it seems OS is booting and PC is working just no display. My num lock key will lid up even though no desplay. Num lock/ capslock keys seems to be working via the keyboard light indication.  I can see hdd is accessed. When I press power button once It will shut down as it suppose too despite no display. (Default one press is shutdown). When I start again it will work as usual with display. After few weeks Pc will go throught 2,3 loops and then starts. This loop happens before showing any display. Then for a week PC will work as there is no issue at all. Then no display comes again but when restart it will work.

Once started by second or third start PC will work as usual with out any issue. Typically I use PC every day like 8 hours from last January . Before i was using like 2-4 hours.

Today PC didn't even gave display after 6-7 restarts. So I tried to find where is the problem.

Removed graphic card and tried on board : Problem exist
conclusion : Video card is not causing the issue

Removed every thing except single Ram: Problem exist
Since I also tried both of my rams in different slots. Since I have two rams both can't be wrong. (I tried them individually)

Also cleared bios every time i do a change

Conclusion: Problem should be one of these Processor , Motherboard or Power supply.

After that I have put every thing back including my Graphic card cleared BIOS. system worked started to work and I'm typing this thread. I'm sure there is some thing wrong and this problem will return. What do you advice? What could be wrong? Thanks in advance

No Game Zone / Which LTE connection is good? Dialog vs SLT
« on: October 26, 2015, 10:56:13 am »
I'm moving. I have to discontinue my ADSL.  I'm wondering which mobile LTE based package to choose.

Dialog LTE
25GB Data

SLT 4G/LTE
Web Family 30GB peak + 10GB Off peak. (Same as my adsl web family i use now)

How about the speed of SLT 4G/LTE. I'm planning to move around wellawatta, dehiwala, Mount area near to galle road. (Not found place yet). If SLT 4G can keep stable above 8 Mbps (1MBps) I will go for SLT because additional 15GB is worth. Also I'm an early bird. :D

Both advertise 4Mbps.

Now my mobile only work in GSM mode. It does not work in WCDMA mode thus I don't get internet. Any setting suggestion? Has any one had this issue?
