Communal Assistance / SLT ADSL Modem Issues
« on: July 31, 2010, 10:43:18 am »
      Two problems here.

Firstly my home computer. We recently had to replace the entire motherboard for it and after that happened, my connection dropped to 32kbps. It's supposed to be 512kbps. (The SLT icon in the taskbar shows 32kbps too, so its like the whole package has changed - which we obviously did not do). Any idea why this might have happened?

I'm thinking it might be something to do with the network card on the motherboard? I don't even know if it has one - my Mom bought it while I was abroad and can't be bothered opening it now lol. Anyways, does the speed of the internet matter with the motherboard card?

Second problem is to do with my laptop and the home ADSL connection. I used the same CD to install the ADSL driver and a connection icon did appear on the taskbar, but it says "No Hardware detected" and the physical modem doesn't power up either. My laptop's using Windows 7.

Modem btw is the ZTE ZXDSL 852 one.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Day 1

Round One of Gamer.LK's Counter Strike Clan's League Season 4 saw the battle of MeetYourRapers Vs. TechMorph and Hitha Honda Chandi Vs. HaWks, providing us with an awesome night of pwnage.

Hitha Honda Chandi managed to pull off a very convincing win against HaWks, coming up with a flawless victory of 16-0. They advance to round two where they await their opponent from the S.W.A.Ts Vs. w0w match taking place later today.

MeetYourRapers and TechMorph refused to let the other win in their battle, constantly going back and forth with the rounds. Ultimately however, TechMorph managed to gain the victory, with a score of 16-13, allowing them to advance to face off against the defending champions, Ferrari on the 23rd of March.

News / GCCL Season 4 and GCHL Season 0.1 Commence!
« on: March 15, 2010, 08:16:01 pm »
Gamer.LK Clans Counter Strike League once more begins its epic journey tonight. Utilizing a slightly different format this time around to accommodate the changes made to both new and old teams, GCCL will still guarantee a month of heavy competition. To start off this season, we have four teams that will face off in the first preliminary rounds. MeetYourRapers will verse TechMorph at 8pm today while Hitha Honda Chandi and HaWks prepare for their match at 10pm.

28 teams, 1 Champion. Let the games begin!

And thats not all!

For the first time ever, GLK will be hosting a Heroes of Newerth tournament. This will not be a professional league just yet however. It will be more of a fun tournament until we learn whether the full version of HoN will be free-to-play or not.

Nevertheless, competition is bound to be fierce as six teams kick off the tournament at 8pm tonight. KnighTs will compete against MuDBLooD SquaD; team B of Legion of Death will verse Falsus Divertimento lolwut? and Blood Money and team 2 of Death Company face off against each other as well.

Who will achieve the first ever championship in competitive Sri Lankan Heroes of Newerth? Only time will tell.

Hardware / Peripherals / [Advice Needed] Choosing a Laptop
« on: August 21, 2009, 04:38:56 pm »
Starting Uni next month and thus need to find a laptop. Ill get the General Questions out of the way first:

General Questions

1) What is your budget?
Up to a $1000, including shipping/taxes - can bend that slightly. Call it up to $200 more.

2) What size notebook would you prefer?

    a. Netbook; 10” screen or less
    b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
    d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
    e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
United States, Oregon

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

Not really.

5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
Video + Image editing + Gaming

6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
It will be moving around a fair bit - from dorm to classes/coffee shop/park/relatives.

7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games?
Yes. Games such as Starcraft 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction are good examples I suppose -- I dont mind playing them on medium settings.

8] How many hours of battery life do you need?
Quite important. I dont want to be stuck in a lecture with pad/paper just cause my laptop ran out of battery. So 3 hours is a minimum.

9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
Seeing it before hand will of course be nice, but the chances of that can be fairly low so on line is fine.

10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Screen Specifics

11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?

    a. WXGA – 1280x800 or occasionally 1280x768; For people who like big text and icons that are easy to read. Less stuff fits on the screen, which translates into more scrolling.

12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?

No preference

Build Quality and Design

13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

No. Performance > looks.

14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
Buying it in ~3 weeks. Needs to last at least 3 years. 4+ preferably.

Notebook Components

15) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a Solid State rive?

250GB is more than enough and theres no need for a SSD.

16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

DVD Burner

*Im looking for a well balanced laptop - one that can handle creating videos/images efficiently along with being able to play upcoming games reasonably well (medium settings are fine with me - I just want to be able to experience the games for myself :) ).
*Battery life + Heat is important for me. I dont intend on playing games outside my dorm (except for LAN parties, but they have power outlets there). Outside the dorm (and thus outside the power sockets), it will be purely for studies. Thus the laptop needs to stay cool + quiet and be able to run for at least 3 hours.
*As for size + weight - less bulkier, the better.

What Im looking at so far:

*Acer Aspire AS5739G-6132

*Gateway FX P-7805u

*MSI MS-1651-ID2

Im leaning heavily towards the Acer Aspire:
Newegg review general state 3/3.5 hours battery life
Apparently can run Crysis on High
6 Pounds weight
$750 bucks 0_0

Most of ya'll are saying to get the Gateway - but thats 9 pounds, battery life apparently averages at 2-3 hours...and heats up considerably without a cooling pad.

The MSI from AVA looks promising. The $900 tag fooled me for a bit...then I noticed that didnt include an OS, an adapter and no WiFi >_< I messed around with the configs and came up with:

*INTEL, Pentium® Dual-Core T3200 2.0GHz Processor, 667MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache, 35W, 65nm, OEM
*NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 160M 1GB Graphics
*15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) or WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) Glossy TFT LCD
*320GB HD, 7200RPM
*Wireless WiFi Link 5300, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/Draft N, 11/54/450 Mbps, Internal PCIe Mini Card
*Extra 6 Cell battery
*95W Universal AC Adapter
*Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Edition SP1, w/ Free Windows 7 Upgrade Coupon, OEM

^ That for ~$1200 with shipping.

BUT...my main concern with the above is...how reliable is this AVA Direct? Ive been looking at laptops on and off for most of this month and I never saw this company or its laptops (read about it in a post on this site for the first time yesterday).

Communal Assistance / RAM Issues
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:37:08 pm »
This is a problem Ive been having quite often. Didnt mind it that much but now Im getting really annoyed. The background:

I have 2x512 RAM sticks and they both work fine. However, if theres a sudden powercut, the comp wont start up for a long time afterwards. Works eventually, but more often than not, it will only show 512mb of RAM. And then after similar events, it might go back to 1GB.

Currently its showing 512mb. Mystery is here though:

Keep in mind that this is with system start up saying 512mb and My Computer Properties confirming that...

Highly doubt its a problem with the sticks themselves cause like I said, sometimes I DO get 1GB RAM and performance is vastly improved as it should.

So the question is: whats going on? :\

Action/Adventure / Dark Void
« on: May 19, 2009, 02:43:40 pm »
Dark Void delivers a ground breaking combination of fast paced vertical combat mixed with mid-air and on-foot action.

Something is consuming our universe, a vast and ancient force almost beyond our comprehension. Millions of years ago, the minions of that power found their way to the 3rd planet of an unremarkable yellow star. Ours. The race they created came to call their masters "The Watchers." For millennia we knew them as gods and served their dark purposes, but a few humans developed extraordinary powers. They were known as the Adepts and they rose up, banishing The Watchers into a parallel universe, where they've manipulated and schemed from afar. Until now.
