Communal Assistance / Best Sound Card for Music & Movies
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:07:45 am »
Hi Audiophiles,

my X-fi has begun its death run with a lot crackling and popping noises.

I want to know what the best sound card is for Music and Movies (gaming doesn't matter coz I use a Logitech G930 which has its own hardware/drivers).

The speaker system is a 5.1 Logitech Z5500.

So the real question is, are the X-fi's still the best or what about things like turtlebeach, AUZENTECH , Asus Xonar???

After around Xinfinity attempts I finally managed to get the [email protected] but the cost was great - I've two sore thumbs and I'm damn sure the left one is bleeding :P - had it in ICE for around 2 minutes *sigh*

Was playing in Medium all the way to end because anything higher meant frustratingly numerous amounts of attempts at beating the bosses.

I tried the honourable methods of combos, special moves and x-ray moves but sure as hell nothing seemed to have the desired effects, the khan would get me every single time.

Finally I had to succumb to CHEAP tricks like teleporting behind him and sweeping him (sweep the leg ie karate kid style:P). Oh not to mention lightning projectile spamming also seemed to work from afar if u get going but that's not always gauranteed.

Bottom line is, one of the hardest boss battles in my history of mortal kombat :( and i've two sore thumbs as proof.

Anybody else wanna share their MK experiences?

Subjects says it all guys -

1) GTX 460 or GTX 560Ti - any brand, awesome if it comes with warranty for at least an year

2) 22" or larger monitor - again, good if it comes with warranty

please pm if you have any for sale. Thanx

Hey guys, my problem is that whenever i'm gaming, the max power draw overwhelms the UPS and it just dies. However, during non-gaming situations it keeps system alive for around 1-2 minutes which is sufficient to save files and shutdown.

So what are the options available to me in Sri Lanka?

There's an interesting article here but i think its a lil overkill

This is a basic guide for PS3 owners how to turn your PC + PS3 into a streaming media setup (even codecs and formats the ps3 doesn't natively support). This has been around for some time, but with the advent of CUDA and coreAVC 2.0, things have become very good for people who wanna stream MKV files from the PC to the ps3 @ 1080p near loss-less bit rates.

1) Stream and Watch HD and SD movies stored in your PC on your HD-TV using the PS3 to control the playback and navigation
2) Convert/Encode video formats that the ps3 doesn't natively support into a format the ps3 can understand so that it can play any of your videos stored in your hard disks
3) Utilize your powerful nvidia cuda enabled card to do all the converting/encoding to achieve smooth playback of high definition large 1080p movies

So what do you need
1) PS3 with an HD TV networked via a switch (preferably gigabit)
2) PC with an nvidia Cuda enabled card
3) Software on PC - PS3 Media Server version 1.21.1
4) Sofware on PC - CoreAVC 2.0 (not free but plenty of torrents)
5) K-Lite standard (its simple and the newer one comes bundled with something called Win7DSFilterTweaker which we need )
6) Wired networking, preferred Gigabit

1) Download and Install PS3 Media Server
you can find many tutorials how to install and setup this.

2) Download and Install Avisynth 2.5.7

3.a) Download VSFilter http://www.videohelp.com/download/VSFilter2.37and2.39_20090624.zip
3.b) Extract the vsfilter.dll from the nested zip file
3.c) copy the extracted VSFilter.DLL into plugins folder of Avisynth that you just installed in step 2

3.d.0) Register VSFilter.DLL using the following: (assuming you installed avisynth to the following path and u have x64 OS)
3.d.1) open a command line window
3.d.2) Type c:\windows\system32\regsvr32 C:\Program Files (x86)\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\VSFilter.DLL

4) Install K-Lite (standard) - This also installs something called Win7DSFilterTweaker which we will use soon

5) Using the FFDshow Video Decoder Configuration program that was installed by k-lite - Disable H.264 Codec
6) CoreAVC 2.0 without Haali Media Splitter as its already in K-Lite

7) Set Maximum Priority to CoreAVC decoder using Win7DSFilterTweaker

8 ) Give maximum priority to Avisynth/Mencoder in PS3 Media Server

9) You are Done.

If some of this sounded a little too much, go to the following link and read up a bit more about this topic and come back to this guide as it lists all steps one by one.

Happy Hi-def movie watching on your tv via a ps3 and pc :)

No Game Zone / Thor (movie) - was Off the Hook!
« on: May 06, 2011, 07:16:00 am »
Watched it yesterday at Savoy (its playing in Cinemax Jaela also)

One of the better Superhero movies I've watched in a while - maybe not as believable as Batman (christian bale's versions) but still nonetheless a very good movie.

 (Y) x 4 out 5

Go to watch these new movies - that way they will bring all the newer movies to Sri Lanka instead of us having to wait for the pirated DVD release ;)

After an EPIC FAIL showcasing the most gross incompetence in recent data security history, Sony has the audacity to blame Anonymous for their recent loss of 25 million plus user information INCLUDING CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. Anybody who has ever bought anything on the PSN network via Credit Card is at risk of their card information being sold by the Hackers (NOT ANONYMOUS) to criminals around the world. I'm sure many of you out their must have spent a few dollars at least on PSN so you could be at risk too. I too replaced my Credit Card as was suggested by Sony.

Anyways, instead of accepting the blame for the current security fail, Sony has begun to blame anonymous, the vigilante group of hackers who are a group of elite hackers who bring digital justice to scum large corporations. Google anonymous and you will see an entire list of their awesome achievements ranging from DDOS to much more sophisticated attacks.

Sony's beef with Anonymous goes back to the hacking of the ps3 by George Hotz. Since sony was on the receiving end of a buggering by Anonymous (for filing a lawsuit against George Hotz the hacker who cracked open the ps3), they were trying to figure out how to get back at the vigilante group.

Now with Congress asking for an explanation about their incompetent security, Sony has decided to put the blame on ANONYMOUS, claiming they were DISTRACTED by the attacks by anonymous which opened up the door for a different malicous group of hackers to Steal PSN user info including their credit cards.

WTF - If the US Congress buys this load of BS, we can all start blaming 3rd parties for our own gross neglect. I guess its akin to saying shit like - "I'm sorry for knocking down that old lady on the road, the Bus driver on the other lane was driving irrationally and I was distracted."

Bottom Line - I'm never going on PSN again or buying another Sony product - they suck almost as bad as Apple. God I love open platforms, thank you PC.

Local Vendors / Logitech Keyboards - Where to buy
« on: May 04, 2011, 06:12:08 am »
Is there any place to buy High end Logitech peripherals such as keyboards & racing wheels etc?

Some years back, Abans had a high end store in duplication road; but it has since been shut down. Did they move the store to a different location or did the store go the way of the dinosaurs?

Anyways, if any1 has info on things like logitech momo wheels, G-series kbs please post here?
