Title: Xiphos and Phoenix Games Strong to Win the Largest Prize Pool to Date
Post by: CB on November 29, 2016, 12:48:46 pm
For the second consecutive year, Sri Lanka Telecom with the partnership of Redline Technologies and Xiphos eSports hosted SLT eSports Championship 2016. This year’s edition consisted of 3 four regional qualifiers followed by a main event hosted alongside Infotel ’16 at BMICH from 11-13th November. Keeping up to the tech giant’s name, the tournament boasted a major prize pool with two million Rupees up for the grab!

The atmosphere was electric from the start to the end. Just as last time, a super grand stage with a spectacularly large screen took the main attention of all participants and spectators. The setup of the venue didn’t fail to give the deserving participants a grand feeling while they competed. Their experience was further ensured to be luxurious by making sure every participant played with steady framerates and conditions by running the games on RLG’s custom made PCs.

With surrounding conditions well met to have good games, good games were indeed played! This year’s championship opened the doors for participants to take part in eight competitive titles namely:
While team games took a steady system of a pre-registered single draw, the registrations for single player titles were made walk-in to maximize the number of participants. A comparatively high number of participants were seen for almost every game as there was no registration fee as well. It was a free chance for every person to try their luck at walking away with a grand prize.

There were countless number of matches played as the walk-in system attracted many participants. However, through the hive of game enthusiasts, the well-known pros of the Sri Lankan gaming community did not fail to performance extra prominently. Some of the major highlights that stole the attention of the event are as follows.

Legendary Noobs Almost Becoming Legends

League of Legends took place quietly and peacefully with a draw of 26 participants. Despite a few roster changes within the top teams, the tournament seemed very normal with the results seeming to be predictable. However, a dark-horse under the name of one of the leading clans, Tech Morph started performing exceptionally through the rounds. They were called Legendary Noobs. By the end of the second day the entire League community was stunned as these young newcomers managed to eliminate two of the most prominent teams of Xiphos eSports to make their way to the grand final!

It was an unexpected face-off for the title. The reigning champions, Team Phoenix from Phoenix GaminG was to face-off against the dark-horse, Legendary Noobs. The first game started and it was even more unexpectedly one-sided to the newcomers. Just when Legendary Noobs were getting ready to destroy the base of Team Phoenix, an exceptional defending play by Team Phoenix managed to shut down the newcomers and to make a superb comeback. With pure experience coming into play, Team Phoenix miraculously managed to secure the first win of the best of three games finale.

The seconded game however, was as what was expected. Team Phoenix with their experience and sync outplayed Legendary Noobs to become the champions once again!

FlashBullet Makes a Stunning Return

Former FIFA 11 champion FlashBullet from Maximum eSports was not seen active among the community after 2012. While rumors said he was done for after the title switched from FIFA 11 to newer versions, FlashBullet proved them all wrong by making the most solid return he could ask for.

To a majority’s surprise, the FIFA dominant and leading clan, Phoenix GaminG did not take a majority of seats among the final draw of FIFA 16. Instead, they were heavily contested by members of Tech Morph and Maximum eSports. The spirit of Phoenix GaminG fell as their last surviving member was also eliminated from the semifinals. Thus, the stage was set for an unusual finale between Maximum eSports and Tech Morph.

The match was intense. Both finalists lived up to the expectations as neither could score easily. However, FlashBullet proved that years of experience can outplay new-blood by taking the victory to become the FIFA 16 champion!

Xiphos Dominates Fighting and Racing

Xiphos eSports have been performing outstandingly in almost every title throughout the year. This time they proved to give out the most solid performance they can in their safe grounds by dominating both Mortal Kombat XL and Project Cars.

Not only that X3 had their games strong in numbers, all of those who qualified for the main events also made sure to do their part well by eliminating the rest of the competition. Their biggest opposition as expected turned out to be the strong competitors from Phoenix GaminG but still Xiphos managed to outplay them to make sure the finals for both games are between members from their own clan. The victory flags were all in orange!

Through all those prominent moments and many more breathtaking matches, the three days of the tournament concluded with the following results:

Small clarification. INSAYN was a standalone team according to my knowledge. How come they have the PnX tag now?

INSAYN registered as a Standalone team. Following is the draw which clearly shows what are the clan teams from the clan tags.

Im sure this is a mistake, i have informed relevant individuals. lets wait for their response!

It was a misunderstanding made since the team composed of PnX members in majority. We verified with the team captain and now it has been updated. Sorry for the inconvinience caused on behalf of the news team!
