[Discussion] Now it is actually worth to import parts.

Not sure what's happening. Items getting cheaper and cheaper on Amazon / Ebay yet PC parts getting more expensive in local market. You can import GPUs for like 25%-40% less including shipping and taxes.   :\

Will parts we import actually arrive / get cleared though?
Not sure about Amazon and eBay since they use something like DHL/FedEx and taxes you beforehand, but AliExpress has stopped almost all items being available to Sri Lanka.
Also there's this new duty on card payments for online purchases, which will make the exchange rate much higher than listed on Google.

yeah, its crazy how these local rip-off retailers inflate prices without a hesitation. Asus Tuf X570 was 41K-44K and now its 49-51K. And 5700XT prices went up from 110K (which was already too much) to 125K. same goes for other GPUs. I ain't buying anything from local shops.

I use B&H these days because of this covid curfew. They use DHL express. and its cheaper, faster than any other website. And yeah aliexpress is unusable right now. :(

What is B&H if you don't mind me asking? And I've always wondered why do local retailers charge massive premiums? Taxes? Are GPU's actually luxury electronics? Looking to get a 5600 xt - any idea what the cheapest way to do this? Sorry if this has been asked else where.

I too, do not want to buy local

B&H is a US retailer, a 5600XT can be brought down for 60Kish ($316) it seems

This isn't the best time to buy new parts though, IMO

Sometime back at the Central Mail Exchange, I was told basic computer parts get taxed at a much lower rate compared to gaming parts while clearing out some stuff. How they determine it to be "gaming" appears to be ambiguous at best, similar to how most used PC shops sell 'gaming' systems for a higher premium than a 'normal' one, it's mostly to do with flashy colours, lights and what's on the box.
Haven't checked the HS codes on those specifically but our tax system is messed up and people there expect us to go through unofficial methods so that they get a cut anyway, Sri Lanka after all. So not sure if they were just pulling my leg to make a quick buck.

Thanks man! Didn't know they offer direct international shipping, I've always used Amazon / Newegg for parts.
They do seem to offer cheaper shipping than many other places, only $36 for the above 5600XT. Is tax included? Doesn't seem to specify that. Wouldn't want a nasty surprise at the doorstep.

Thanks man! Very useful info to have - I am waiting perhaps 3-4 months as I'd like a new gpu before cybapunk hits! And Valhalla!

it seems like local prices have shot up due to covid crisis, probably due to lack of stocks
the only problem with buying online is warranty. btw how much would it cost for the warranty process? (shipping costs?)

Thats without tax. Btw they use DHL express. My items came to sri lanka in 3 days even with this covid stuff. Got taxed 4400LKR for 57K worth of items so taxing is okay. Best part of it is even if i order 3 or 4 items shipping costs stays under 40 for all the items. Btw not heavy and large stuff like casings :V
And another thing, if you use Commercial Debit cards, do not modify the order and add items after you do the checkout. Retarded bank doesnt let them manually charge the card for those additional stuff.

Depends on size and weight of the item and the service you are gonna use. Lets say it costed 5K to send a mobo for RMA, but still its worth it since we have saved way more than that. and its not gonna happen very often. it cost me 85K for my GPU and now high end model of it costs 125K here lol. If you do a full high end build, you'll save over 100K if you import all the stuff.
