Cricket Simulations
« on: March 25, 2007, 12:13:28 PM »
While cricket games are few and far between, the ones that do reach the market are very lacklustre. Either the gameplay is downright pathetic (cricket 2002) or the licensing is a joke (cricket 2007). I've yet to see a complete cricket simulation.

The latest EA release, Cricket 2007, is good in terms of graphics. Speaking on gameplay; the creators have tried to improve on it but its far too easy. The difficulty bar in my opinion is a joke. They should have remained with the 3 settings of easy, medium and hard. In previous version hard actually gave a good game. The licensing is very, very poor. Only England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealend have the real names.  >:(

The best that I've played by far is EA sports cricket 2005. It had a nice balance of gameplay and graphics. It also had the proper names of all internation cricketers!  :P

Cricket 97 with Tony Greig. Man the commentaries were so predictable in that. :-) And of course, there was this one sweet spot that always assured a six. For a pace bowler, a leg glance was a guaranteed six. It was hillarious, you could go totally wide of the wicket and still leg glance. If you timed it right, it always went for six, no questions asked. xD The crowd was one flat texture too, I remember that clearly.

Graham Gooch's, Brian Lara's and Alan Border's cricket? Now those were mad fun. There was this sweep shot that always guaranteed a boundary. Also, you could create a team with everyone's stats at 99999 and they would pretty much roxor. It was insane fun back then. You could create Somadasa and the Handiye Kollo and pwn the shit out of Australia. Cricket is seldom more fun than that, I tell ya.

Did I have lots of free time as an adolescent? Apparently so.

Meh I cant believe were having this discussion, being srilankans :/
Ok best game of cricket:
1. Call friends over
2. Set a plank as a wicket on the road
3. get another bat or stick (bat preferably) and get a ball.
4. PLAY
Why waste money on useless 'sims' when you can play the real thing outside :/ Cmon this is Sri Lanka :/

is bought cricket 07 for ps2. the batting system and shot are good with the century stick control system. the swing of the ball is a bit exaggerated sometimes. Only 4 teams are licensed. so the player names of SL team are changed. 5 or 10 over limited over games are fun. Usually i only bat and i skip the bowling by using the autoplay option.

lol, i used to do this but then got bored..so I changed it around...used autoplay for batting and i bowled the overs. It was pretty interesting until i found some bugs in the game. I think it was in cricket 05 where you take a left handed fast bowler and bowl just in front of the batsmens toes and Id get him out everytime. This only happend in 10-20 over matches. I even tried a bowling 50 overs (yes i was that jobless) After a few matches i got them out in 10 overs. The AI was pretty one dimensional in strokeplay. :P

With the conversion from BL's cricket to Ricky Ponting's cricket, a new cheat mode has been built into the game to better simulate todays cricket.
