Classifieds RMF (Read Me First)
« on: January 07, 2008, 04:22:17 pm »
This is the official RMF for the classifieds section.

Naming posts.
Please tag the posts you make in this section with one of the following in the post title:

Selling
If an item is being sold, insert [SELLING] before the post title

e.g.
[SELLING] My CD collection
[SELLING] Asus 8600 VGA
[SELLING] My little brother

In the event that your item has been sold, please replace the [selling] tag with [sold]. This way people who are interested will be updated at a glance, instead of having to post and wait for a reply.

eg.
[sold] 19" LCD Screen

Requesting
If you're making a topic requesting an item, please insert: [BUYING] to the front of the topic.

e.g.
[BUYING] Cheap socket 478 motherboard

Doesn't it make more sense to put [] in front of the title like u already mentioned "If an item is being sold, insert [selling] in front of the post title"...

Would it be alright if we started doing that?

It doesnt really matter does it? Whether its [Selling] My computer! or My Computer! [Selling], people will still understand that your selling your computer.

Think what this rule is really saying is to specify what your doing with the item you talking about, in the topic title. Either selling or buying

prefer onca's idea of [sold] at the end... it makes way more sense at a first glance...

What i meant was that ur instruction says to post [selling] in FRONT of the title, but ur example actually posts it at the end, for eg: "P4 2.8 [selling]" as opposed to "[selling] p4 2.8".

I prefer having the [] at the beginning of the title, cause then if i want to buy something or browse offers, then i don't waste time cause the info is also left aligned, if at the end it doesn't align...

I know it's not a strict rule, but i thought it would be kinda rude and obnoxious if i did it without asking first, thas all... :)

Oh wow... It takes such an effort to focus 2cm further to the right... -_-

And also, I think Onca's method is better... Before you check the status of the thread, you need to identify the thread. By having the title of the thread first, you can easily scout out the thread you're looking for, and then check its status...

Think he's referring to the times when the title is so long, that the last parts of it are cut of.

Lol but think everyones getting confused here. He's not talking about replacing the system or anything. All he's *wondering* is whether putting the [whatever] AFTER the title is a strict rule. What he's trying to say is that putting [whatever] BEFORE the title is better.

Just forget the "in front." Putting it either BEFORE or AFTER a title are both technically in front of it. Just depends on how you view it ;D

But really dude, its such a small thing -_- Not really worth asking about it...

Sorry for wasting time on a nonissue...

PS - Onca, my bad, when u said "in front of" i understood that as "at the beginning of", i see what u meant now.
       Archangel, thnx for clarifying

hey thanks archangel :D i was just typing out this when you had posted it out, but anyways... on the same lines... :D

hey onca does the topic title get trimmed at all when shown in the "latest posts" table for example? it's like, if you've got a fairly long topic title, it might appear as "pretty long topic title [..." when the actual topic name is "pretty long topic title [selling]". in that case, you'd have to click the topic and then get into the main expanded thread view to see what the rest of the title was. i'm not sure if this happens though? hmmmm... interesting.. in that case, you'd want to stick to having the [sold], etc. status at the beginning of the topic title..

monkey king stu, was that what you were trying to say?

err... actually i was just thinking that,

[selling] My CD collection
[selling] Asus 8600 VGA
[selling] My little brother

is a much quicker and easier read than,

My CD collection [selling]
Asus 8600 VGA [selling]
My little brother [selling]

because it the [] is left aligned.

I wasn't even thinking abt titles that are too long for u to see the end... i think that credit goes to Archangel :)

No.
So far I have never seen a topic too long, there is a limit. And what would you be possibly selling that has a title so long?
You guys are overthinking, leave it the way it is, while Im open to consider suggestions, I have learnt that if there is a disagreement whether to change a rule like this or not to, id normally keep it the way it is.
While MKS, your suggestion makes sense, it just doesnt matter in this case. You dont look for something basedo n whether its being sold or not, you will care about what product it is right? So even if theres the unlikely scenario where the title does get cut off, at least most of the product's name will be there :)
PS - Onca, my bad, when u said "in front of" i understood that as "at the beginning of", i see what u meant now.

Yeah when I read your first post I got a little confused when I read my own post again XD
Oh and this isnt a strict rule, but it helps people who really want to buy something or sell something :)
