Poll: Intel vs AMD
« on: March 21, 2009, 08:52:16 am »
Vote for your favorite brand name - Intel or AMD?

Take into account all aspects of the two companies, the hardware they manufacture, pricing, their overall relationship with the community, handling resellers, branding, advertising, support for e-sports (Intel sponsors SLCG ;) ) etc.

Vote and discuss the two CPU giants.

well i hv experience in both companies products.

1. Performance
when it comes to performance AMD sucks big time. specially in 3d applications.(rendering in 3d max is way faster with an equivalent Intel Processor) even you look at now, there is no big challenge to Intel's core architecture, from AMD.

2. Price
this is the most favourable aspect in AMD.even i went for them is the fact that their processors are low in price.but the thing is when u start to work, u will definitely fed up!!!!!

Conclusion
wat i learn from my experience is even with a high price tag, intel satisfy ur expectations......i <3 intel :)

im with intel when it comes to performance & tech. but remember AMD beat the intel with their Athlon series few years ago just like AMD did with their 4870X2. ny thing can happen in the tech world.

Lol rav, may be 25% of the people here will judge in that manner, but the rest of us will just choose the one we have heard of the most and just go on someones say. Intel is heard of more and is being used by more people so therefore its obviously going to be higher, even though AMD has several achievements.

i7s performance could be compared to a nuclear power station powering a village.
Honestly, with all these C2Ds being placed on pcs for regular home users is just a waste. Especially since 50% of the price will be from it XD And the only time the CPU will go under load apart from startup would be when theyre extracting the occasional .rar or .zip (even that wont be much XD).
Im a bit outdated on the whole cpu scene, but I recall AMD going for effeciency rather than sheer power. If thats the case still, I think thats very realistic.
Oh yez, I haz a DC and it can pwn half the C2Ds u get (coupled with my mobos overclocking godness!). But if I did it again, Id go for AMD.

Wrong. Even though Intel do have the performance edge in the desktop arena, whether they are ahead in technology is an arguable point. Other than for the fact that they're a few months ahead of AMD in new fab techs, their "lead" pretty much ends there.

AMD have had features like On-die memory controllers and Native quad cores for years, while Intel only started employing them with i7.

For you, i7 may be a waste, but many others find uses for it. Its pretty much the first time an Intel quad core is matching the penryn dual cores' clock speeds, so it offers both awesome single threaded performance as well as unmatched multithreaded performance. I things like video/image editing, the i7 does become useful (it can match a skulltrail).

As for AMD going for efficiency, if thats true, they arent doing a good job at all. Even if their Phenoms were extremely efficient, they totally got pwned by Intel. The only Phenoms that could match the likes of the E8400, the Q6600 and Q93/9400 had TDPs as high as 125W or even 140W. Mobos needed to be certified to be able to handle such high power draws. And in one review, the Voltage Regulation Circuitry of a board "Certified to handle 140W" actually burned during testing. All this while Intel had quads running at ~95W IIRC.
