Was planning on buying a phone from from DIALCOM but a guy I know said that most of their phones are just parts assembled from pettah or some shit. Is it true? I'm having a hard time bieveing that but it made me paranoid enough to keep off buying from them till I'm sure...

It's a rumour I've heard as well. They tend to repackage repaired phones and resell them as brand new.

I was once sold a failed iPhone by a phone shop in Sri Lanka. Lasted 2 weeks and it just stopped working. They told me water damage when it hadn't been in contact with any water. Eventually I had to give the phone and get 15k for the parts.

I'm sure that iPhone had all the parts reinstalled and resold as another brand new or sparingly used phone.

Just buy the phone from an authorised dealer. It may cost you a little bit more but the warranty is superb.

had a blackberry passport i bought as a gift to family member
once the keyboards q and e keys stopped registering went to dialcom, we told that the hardware warranty doesnt cover the kb and that it just covers the body
so after a small remapping and continuing to use it broken the metal band that connects the phone to gether came loose on one end went to dialcom and we were told that it was damage by us so they cant repair it
however we can buy another blackberry passport with a 5% discount

fyi- bought the passport from dialcom as that was the only place that had the phone when the family member needed it
we bought a new one from india and its still going strong
so just clarify everything with the sales bugger and possibly get a note which supports the claims as otherwise ur gonna end up with a expensive paperweigth

in the end we did and we are way happier
they arnt gonna claim that u damaged it when its a clear manufacturing error
in the end just wait if its not availabale from an reputable seller and view the extra money u pay as safety incase the phone breaks

I will never set foot at Dialcom again. Bought two brand new phones and both developed issues within three months. And the Warranty was a joke. They do repairs at their own place and took more than a month.

And don't be fooled by their "Demo phone" sales either. They are just used phones from other customers.

Used mobile phones are imported by the tons from many countries to Sri Lanka. These stocks are bought by many sellers island wide. Once the stock comes in, workers get down to business by checking, categorizing each brands and models then testing. Testing will cover;

display
audio input/output
keyboard
power and volume buttons
touch (if applicable)
charge-ability
battery

Then they clean it throughly. Any individual component that fails any of the above tests are replaced from the working parts of the same lot. At the end of the day, yes there are few kilos of stuff thrown away from the bulk that was imported but it's necessary waste to make the profit.

This was what my father told me after he found out the scam run by one of the big mobile phone stores. I'm not accusing Dialcom here. I'm simply informing you people that yes, what I said is indeed happening. If one particular store is getting too many complaints by the consumers then that's good reason to believe they just might be one of the scammers.
