I understand the ways of RAM usage, you do too. Please don't confuse it with VRAM; there's no use for most programs to store graphical models/textures in the background anyway. :P

VRAM is not for programs, that's RAM. In new games, next to graphical settings there is a VRAM indicator, and the newer games require above 6GB for certain kinds of settings to remain turned on.

People need to understand how memory works. If you have more, any program will use more than it needs to. So if you have 8GB and you see a program using 6GB, that's not an indication of the program needing 6GB to run.

A RX 480 4GB doesn't seem to have issues with a 2k screen, so no ::)

It's actually "the future today", games are requiring higher amounts of RAM, the big famous ones anyways... :P

Gwent
« on: March 16, 2017, 09:32:03 pm »
Anyone who's a fan of Witcher books & games, specifically witcher 3, 9/10 times is a huge gwent fan.
That was a really great mini game to kill out time in the immense world of witcher 3 and could've had an enjoyable breather from always slashing monsters or shagging women  ;D

I personally loved the concept of the card game and because many players have been, gwent was further developed as a stand alone card game and right now it's in the beta stage testing. (an open beta to be exact so anyone who could get an invite can play)

Many hearthstone players seem to play gwent as well but because I have never played hearthstone cannot really make a comparison between the two.

Anyone who have played gwent in witcher 3 could get hold of the game mechanics pretty easily but there are a quite a few changes. You can notice this specially of the cards which exists in both the mini game & the standalone game.

(ex - Cahir or Thaler)

If you haven't tried it but a fan of card gamer or witcher or witcher 3 gwent, I'd highly recommened to give it a shot.
Quite enjoyable to say the least.

Here are the main things to notice.

* There are 5 main factions as of now. Nothern Realms, Skellige, Monsters, Scoiatel & Nilfgaard (my favourite)
* Each faction has 3 leaders with different leader abilities. You could only choose one leader per deck.
ex - In NR there is Foltest, Radovid & henselt with different kind of abilities.
* There are 3 colour types of cards. Gold, Silver & Bronze.
Gold being the most unique, silver the second & bronce as typical units.
* There are 3 types of cards in rarity. Legendary, Epic & Rare as I remember. Differs from the colour.
ex- there could be a silver legendary & a gold epic.
* Apart from faction specific cards, there are neutral cards as well which could be played in any deck.
ex- Geralt, Geralt Igni, Yenneffer the Conjurer. Ciri, Vesemir, Lambert & Eskel

* Currently there's a ranking system in the ranked gameplay from 1 to rank 15.(rank 15 being the most experienced players with top tier decks)
I'm currently on rank 14  ;D
* You have to craft cards when you go by playing with game currency you'll get as rewards.
So lets say that you want to build a certain type of deck with a certain faction. But to trigger that deck, you are missing a specific gold card. So with the rewards you get by playing, you can craft that card later on.
* There's also kind of a luck of the draw type card reward system which features a troll  ;D Quite funny actually.

* The game is still on developent stage, so the developers are still making some heavy changes. So some cards which were heavily favoured could get nerfed and become pretty useless but some could get buffed and gain advantage. There's a quite big patch coming out recently as well.

But it's at the end of the beta stages so could be released soon.
Anyway if you could get hold of a beta invitation give it a try.  :)

There will be more cards coming up in the future so it'll get more interesting. I think the game has really great potential.

I currently follow these youtubers for additional info - AdamCatalans, Merchant, MegaMogwai, Lifecoach Hearthstone

Also you could check gwentdb forum, gwentify, or gwent reddit subforum for more info.

Happy Gwent!

This is a good example of how strategy works in the game and how someone could counter them. Having the specific cards of course. And some luck with the draw.

I'm the 1/10. I hated Gwent and everything to do with it.

So the Gwent Challenger $100,000 final was a held a few days ago.
And Lifecoach won it. That guy is amazing. Got very good analytical skills and really gets in the game mode.

Here's some of the highlights from his VLOG. Btw mehgamogwai, another streamer I follow was commenting. I'm not into gwent very much these days because it's very time consuming but love the game as always. And it has huge potential

There were some really great games in the finals but what I really like about lifecoach is, he brought some decks from outside the meta that was born after the update. Specifically speaking the yennefer with ves & blue stripes commandos. When he puts ves in and the yen & either unicorn or chorniex, he puts in 2 golds & with Ves, her abilty brings up the blue stripes.
