would not recommend 4gb of RAM if you have a SSD as your system drive.

Because? I'm running 4GB with an SSD and I have no issues.

Less RAM means system use the page file (aka reserved free space from the main storage device) , If the storage device (HDD or SSD) is slow , then the entire system will become very slow when the free RAM space runns out.

SO
Almost always a system with a SSD is faster than a system with a HDD even with lesser RAM capacity.
Normally we upgrade RAM up to 8Gb or more before going for a SSD , cause extra 4Gb like RAM is cheaper and more affordable than a SSD.
But it does not mean 8+GB RAM is a must to recruit a SSD to your system, It only depends on the Apps you are running and what are you doing with your PC.

SSD with paging enabled? well i don't recommend that either. im running my system with no paging.
why i said SSD with 4GB is not recommended is due to below. SSD is still expensive and adding a extra layer of safekeeping to that investment will mean no harm to your system.

Agreed!
System is using page file means , System is cashing more files to the storage.
So it will read and write more data much more frequently to the storage device.
As we know SSDs are not much up to that tasks than HDDs.
So it might age the SSD much faster than usual.

It might drop the lifetime of an SSD from 6 years to 4 years. In 4 years a 120GB SSD will be a joke.

i wouldn't worry about keeping the pagefile on the SSD. i don't, but only because i have 16GB RAM and i don't use even half that much with anything that i do. if i had 8GB or less RAM, i wouldn't worry about keeping the pagefile on the SSD.

the endurance of flash is so under rated. they will live much longer than one would think. 5000 cycles, 10000 cycles seem like a small amount, but the SSD controller is intelligent enough to prevent unnecessary writes to the same flash cell.

check this link out. TechReport is doing an endurance test to see how long - in practice - these SSDs last. by last, i mean, how long before the flash cells wear out and become unreadable.

http://techreport.com/review/25889/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-500tb-update

basically the Samsung 840 seems to have the least endurance, but that's because it is TLC. but you are good up to 100TB writes. i have the same drive and i've had it for more than a year. (bought it in 2013 January) and i have only written 4.39TB to it. which means, i have 20 years at this rate, before some of the flash cells become unusable. but even then, the controller can do some remapping which the user will only notice after some time.

Thank you very much for the Infor and for the link.
