Meh.... I had some really deja vuey feelings reading through that questionaire..... I still feel that simply cause this is my hobby does not make it detrimental to me or people around me(i hope)... If i start seeing baddies walking on the street or i start imaging gunning people down in a super market or wish i could lead a airstrike at school i will consider returning to the netherlands(land of my birth) and admitting myself to the Video game rehab center that was created by the government to deal with the World of Warcraft obsessed.

I will state even though my mum considered it for me. My reasons for refusing were. I still took time to eat, sleep(6-10 hours). I did not pee into bottles so i could stay at the pc. I still went to the supermarket to buy oven dinners, microwavable snacks and other quick fix stuff.

If anyone believes i am deluding myself plz let me know i would be very interested to hear your views.

I am however no longer a WoWer as i quit it after spending the 12 days of Christmas alone with it and feeling really quite lonely and bored.

its not that you would imagine, but violence becomes a norm in your life. and like any addiction it affects u.. did u read the article? u r in front of the pc gaming, u get headaches, ur sleeping patterns change , it becomes unhealthy. (well obviously, addiction to anything in unhealthy)
im not trying to say you'll imagine baddies walking down the street or whatever but its gonna affect ur health, ur eyesight, and make you more violent, etc.
world of war craft.. i was reading somewhere that of the 6 million users who are playing WoW, 40% are addicted..
and wait u r saying, the only things u do, while gaming is, eat, sleep and go off to pee? um, im no professional but u shud b doing 'other' stuff than those , gaming shud b a hobby where u spend around 2/3 hours max of your day, more than that is just not healthy. maybe you arent addicted and u still have the will power to break away and limit ur self, then im advising u shud start doing that. (yeah its easy to lose ur self in the game, and have no perception of time). so you guys, neverthless of how kool the game is, try and limit the time u play. 2 to 3 hours a day shud be the maximum time spent on gaming, because u wont knw that u r addicted, till u r :D

;D ;D  All very intersting really,  First of all, Violence became a norm in society long before games appeared. And leaving out the people who are actually ADDICTED, as in spouse shunning, meal skipping, reponsibility procrastinating Addicts (I'm yet to meet one by the way), most gamers lead normal healthy lives and only see it as a passtime. As for bad eyesight and head aches, fans of televison, movie buffs and BOOK WORMS experience the same thing.

And OBVIOUSLY  .EXEcutioner didn't mean that eating sleeping and Peeing was ALL he did   ;D  (were you being sarcastic there?)  And i'm sure that any mother in the western world would rather have a kid at home in front of a PC than out doing drugs or in a gang  8)

And if you want to know how gaming affects people's lives, you talk to THEM.  Not read some article which bloats facts just to make it more news worthy. If you meet a few real ADDICTs in the process, send them my sympathies  :D

And GUYS... apparently Ran reacted to your responses to her QUENSIONAIRE with mockery, calling Gamers jobless. >:(
(GASP) Truth be told!!   ;)

Hmph! the aussies are ganging up on me!!
well obviously violence was around from day 1 or whenever, but if u r "addicted" to anything that means "you" have a problem regarding to that. and no lil dirky, im not talking abt gamers in general, im talking abt "addiction" !
any mother in the western world yeah, well i dont live in the western world, and i wouldnt know their culture implications, but im sure if ur kid doesnt get up from the chair to talk or even eat cos he's gaming, western or eastern "any" mother would be concerned (sheez), and its better than getting killed or drugs.. true, but how would u knw! if violence is gonna affect u cos u r an "Addict" and u r gonna get ur self killed eventually, what makes u a better judge at saying what's better and whats not :P
and sweet heart, the article is a "literature review" regarding my paper, which also has a section called "methodolgy" where what i have been doing :P 'IS' talking to ppl who used to be addicted.. i posted it here on Rav's request to get a general idea cos u guys are in to games as well, and interviewed him cos he's 4ever playing games, but it seems he's not addicted making him mmm not too relevant :P
and dharshan 2 ,3 hours are healthy if u r an addict and u r having problems controlling ur game time, and a person who;s at a post office arent addicted to posting their letters orwhatever and doesnt have side affects except maybe their eyes,
that's abt it for today folks.

p.s- u r so dead nesferatu, 'tell a tale' :P :D

Well was being sarcastic... I never was completely disabled.. i did read the article it said much of the same things that i have heard from various other sources when they tried to convince me to give up my gaming.

My addictive gaming only started when the dutch educational system jeopardized my future and put me in a lasting depression.

Gaming has always been my greatest talent even though i was big on reading, writing, sports and learning in general and it remained constant when all other things started falling away.

My mother has come in hind sight(since i have overcome my issues and found  new path to follow) to the conclusion if it had not been for my gaming habits and my falling back on it i would have most likely ended up doing something stupid, desperate, drastic and final I thank it for giving me something to live for during those years or utter darkness and hopelessness it also gave me friends when all but one of my friends shunned me.
Gaming saved my life and has given me a future all it asked for was 3 years of devotion to heal a lasting mental trauma.
Seeing how people sometimes suffer depressions for decades i think there maybe some undiscovered medicinal values to gaming. no?

yeah there are, mental and physical.. medical values i mean.. the fact that games have the ability to get u in real deep and lose perception of time etc has its good qualities.. there was some article abt this kid.. who had some fungi disease thing on his face(like a real horrible case of it).. and wouldnt keep his hands to him self, and would just go touching and peeling his facial skin etc making it worse..!, till they gave him a game, and he would play that forgetting abt his face.. and it started healing etc like that..
but note, just because it has some good stuff in it doesnt mean its all good.. as with drugs.. you can use it as medication, but a lot of it, screws u up :)
same goes for gaming. cheers :D

Well yes "all things in moderation is the way to go" or else you just have to to be willing to suffer the consequences taking the good with the bad; accept them in which case i say you should be free to devote yourself to one thing and just OWN IT!!! :P Just the way i see it.

Is the word dirky an insult? Plus i think most of us gamers Are fairly jobless, And it's not the Best hobby in the world... But there are much worse...  Besides, after having spent a few hours being killed by Singaporeans and new zealanders on an Aussie server (FEAR combat, bye the way) i think multiplayer gaming fosters some kind of international understanding, even if most of Them are TKing #$@#tards...
I've never heard of letter posting addiction, too, and as a sidenote, i wonder if their 'habit' is more costly than ours :D
Also, gaming can get you killed often, but if you're lucky you could respawn, and if you're not, there's always a savegame...

Dirky: A beautiful talented woman. Who is nothing but kind and generous to others...
