well fr us it shwz "slt" bla bla... Therez a utube server in SL. may be tatz why.. idk :S
Not a server, its the ISP cache
Hi,If an ISP wants to Censer stuff like porn sites (e.g.: http://www.tube8.com/ ) , news sites (e.g.: http://lankaenews.com/ ) it will be much easier to do so with a cache server without having an impact on traffic.Dialog system CCBS2 (Customer Care billing system 2 by the way it’s from MIT) has a backbone capable of monitoring up to 40 of these servers flawlessly(2,50,000 IPS PER SERVER) for FUP on a connected ip. In other words most probably this was implemented to maximize speed but in feature can be used as a tool for monitoring FUP as well. When I was at dialog 3-4 Years back they had a system call ranger to capture VOIP and credit card fraud. I heard from friends and former colleges that the same system was developed further and migrated to the same infrastructure catering data usage report generation and auto capture and ban profile capability was just 1out of 12 of the new systems tasks. I was employed in manual billing those days we attended POC (Proof of concept on Sathyam) a system called Sathyam (Indian) .IN ANY CASE IF THEY CHANGE IN TO THAT ALL DATA FUP PIRATES WILL BE CAPTURED IN MATTER OF 1-2 MONTHS. Thank god that dialog can't afford 300billion for the Sathyam system.Last but not least if you have a walk around for FUP likes some of us it's time to watch and limit your monthly data quota bellow 40GB to prevent from appearing on the High data usage list that dialog now generates every 2 weeks.By the way if your ISP censers a site and if you want to still go there, you can still access it by using an anonymous ip proxy gateway like hidemyass. Thanks,Regards,Chamal.
well i think dialog had the bluecoat network long before the censorship rules came to work. only thing we dint do is to add filters. even bluecoat is an intelligent system. it can learn from other servers from all over the world and adopt their options if allow it to. fire-walling and content filtering is pretty standard sections when designing an isp n/w. google cache allow us to track the trends in the network more quickly so it might speed things up. And for billing i dont know how it can contribute for it. but may be for capacity count. for other than that there's a separate intelligence network hooked to GSM/UMTS via S7 to have real time tracking to may be the 100th of a second. and yes there are many high tech systems out there but chinese are very good at reverse engineering so always come up with cheaper solutions, as we know entire airtel network is hosted by huawei so imagine its service quality.
Ah no worries - While i was there our team was thinking of putting up a google cache server at dialog since theres the google search servers at UoM. The project got delayed month after month bcos of the financial crisis they were undergoing. my boss was fighting over it have in dilaog with isp team, looks like they finally did it. this will speed up the youtube and google maps and othere services. its cache server, so if u r viewing some content on youtube or inside google for the 1st time in srilanka - the content will be cached in to it and next person will get it from there, so he will get it more faster than urs. and this will leave somuch international banwidth open for other services, which is a great deal for traffic management.pretty standard stuff in most countries and must be the first time in SL after google server in UoM.hope its not thefirst time u encountered this?.
What about DNS cache is it integrated with this server you are talking about ? or a separate one? or what we are talking here is about a DNS cache server? I'm confused :O
Still somehow cache must served by a server.
