Title: Suggest me a Smartphone
Post by: Alucard on December 30, 2016, 11:23:21 am
Hey guys, so I'm in need of a smartphone.
My knowledge about smartphones is very poor, so please help me out.  :)

My budget is around 30-35k. But it's better if it's around 25-30 cause I don't see much of a point in spending more than that.

I've been using a samsung champ up until now ;D and it has served me well for my needs and still working well but I guess it's time to move on to something which suits my needs.

Here are the stuff that I want to prioritize.

1. responsiveness - to live apps and websites (So I guess the performance of the phone and the speed of the internet-4g & etc..)

2. audio quality - not music exactly. The ability to clearly listen to language files is my priority. If I should invest in a pair of earphones also let me know.

3. ability to use translator apps without much of a fuss (Don't know if this depends on the phone or the app though)

4. screen size - to read pdf files (don't need anything too big though. A standard screen size (5.5" display?) will suffice I guess)

5. Build quality, durability & battery Life

Not interested in having a good camera or dual sim or not.
From what I've seen in the previous threads, many have recommended the one plus phones (1 or 2?) but they seem to be way out of my budget.. (And asus zenfone?)
Likewise if I should spend a bit more and go for something like that, please tell me why..
Thanks.

Can't say if it's the best or not. But I'm using the Huawei P9 lite at the moment. I bought it from abroad but it's about 32k here.

I've been using it for a few months and it's still snappy. Fingerprint reader and everything. Works pretty well and at the time I bought it it was the best phone in this price range from my research :)

Do wait and get more opinions and compare and get the best option though!

It's really worth of try Huawei P9 Lite and GR5. They are really good phones for the price. My friends have them and I can recommend them. I'm not sure about the Samsung, at the price point you mentioned have some good pones...

p9 lite is on my list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Unfortunately, don't think I'll be going for a used phone. How much does a brand new one cost these days? What about the oneplus one?
And while I'm hearing so many good things about the phone but there seems to be an issue with the fingerprint reader and the home button..

Thanks for the comments. +1

And how about the HTC m8 & the Asus zenfone?

One plus one is a solid buy if you can find one. After one plus X came they dont make it anymore. Dont buy the one plus X it is crap. Try LG G3 as well. I saw it going for the price you seek. Very good camera and 2K display. This is a good buy if you dont plan to game a lot.
Also try and see if note 3 or 4 is available. Both are excellent phones.

Before going to apple and now an S7 I used the M8

Trust me that's by the far one of the best phones I've used!

Camera - Is GREAT, really really good.

O/S - Really stable that even Snapchat on Andriod ran smoothly, and didn't seem to get stuck with a ton of background apps

Audio is great due to its dual boomsound speaker system in the front

1080p display was good, not great. Due to sunlight even when cranked to full brightness it would struggle.

Honestly didn't have a problem with the phone, get the job done!  (Y)

From what I read I found out that the G3 doesn't have good battery life. It'll be a bit troublesome for me. I do not actually care about the camera. +1 for the recommendations.

m8 is on my list but I'm holding back of it because it has only 2GB of RAM.

I don't think ASUS ZENFONE is a good choice though. They are looks cheap and not performing well as they advertised. I had experiences and they have better options with your budget range than ASUS.

hmm it won't be a serious issue I guess.
p9 lite is the best option atm from what I've gathered.

RamEEz bought one today. I also went and checked at Liberty. For it's specs at 30k price point I'd say that device is a no brainer for some one on a budget. Everything for a quick 15 minute glance ticked for me except the size.

Honor 6X and GR5 are the same. I dunno why but Huawei for some reason have different names for the same device in different regions.

They are not the same. The Honor 6X has a dual camera setup.

Now I'm even more confused. The GR5 above isn't the phone you posted.

There are two GR5s. The 2015 one is also known as Honor 5X. The equivalent of Honor 6X is known as GR5 2017.

I dont know about the Honor 6x. But the P9 lite is a lot better than the 5x (I have both the 5x and the P9 lite at my place).

care to explain ?

I've shortlisted it down to the p9lite or the gr5 2017 (6X).
After Xea posted that comment and video leaned towards the GR5. (It seems to be a fine phone for that price at basically have the same features compared to the p9lite & some additional stuff as well). - Fast Charging & etc..

But how & why does the 5x fail where the p9 lite passes?

And I couldn't find many website reviews on the GR5 2017 until I knew it was the same as 6X. The 6X has some good website reviews.

So the 5X is a lot slower. And slightly bulkier and just less premium feeling.

But I think the 6x might be better than the P9 lite since its come out much later! Good luck :)

Apparently the CPU is relatively 75% faster on the 6X with the 5x. Or so is posted in an article.
And the RAM is gone from 2GB to 3GB.
I don't have that much interest in the feeling though  ;D Just need something that can get shit done without annoying myself.
But kind of having second thoughts with the size. But it's not that bigger than the p9 lite right?

Just go to Liberty Plaza and there's a Huawei guy on 1st floor right near the staircase side entrance from Duplication road. He has all the latest models from Huawei displayed. Have it in your hand, play with it, feel it bla bla. I was on the fence as you are until I did all of that and I immediately liked and disliked it. Disliked only because it's too big for my taste.
