Capcom announced a release date for Super Street Fighter IV today, confirming our suspicions that the next entry in the series will be a new version of SFIV sold with enhanced features at a lower price.
Capcom confirms fresh faces and old favorites like T. Hawk are dropping in next spring.The press release we found in our inbox this morning remains cagey on specific details, promising only that SSFIV adds "about eight characters new to the world of Street Fighter IV." The approaching challengers include a mix of returning characters (like the infamous T. Hawk) and fresh faces (the enigmatic Korean tae kwon do master Juri.)
Compatability issues mean players can't take Juri online against owners of vanilla SFIV.Capcom further promises players an improved multiplayer mode with new matchmaking features and a refined play experience (including new Ultra Combos) based on community feedback. However, be warned that Super Street Fighter IV players will not be able to play online against owners of the original Street Fighter IV. Producer Yoshitori Ono commented during a GameSpot preview that the new features were a drastic change that necessitated new multiplayer code incompatible with the original game, which is why the title will be released separately instead of as SFIV DLC. Ono also promised that Capcom will offer current SFIV owners an incentive for upgrading, so don't chuck your discs just yet.
