Team Registrations and Ranking System
« on: August 13, 2012, 05:03:20 AM »
The Sri Lankan competitive e-Sports scene has never had a formalised ranking system for teams. From the beginning of Gamer.LK in 2007, we've had ad-hoc and individual rankings for tournaments, which had a lot of room for improvement when compared with international standards. With the competitive scene growing and more gamers taking to e-Sports, we think it's time to take the next step in organised rankings in Sri Lanka.

The staff of Gamer.LK have always had a vision for how clan/team registrations should work on the website. Unfortunately, we've never been in a position to fully implement this due to various practical reasons. Instead of building a full "clan system" as we had hoped to in the past, we will instead be taking the registration of clans and teams step by step.

How it works

Step 1: Register officially as an e-Sports team in Sri Lanka.
You can do this by filling in the Team Registration form. Communicate with your clan leaders and decide on your rosters and team names! Team names cannot be changed once registered. Once you register your team name, you will have to use that same name throughout your e-Sports career in order to be ranked under that name.

Note that one clan can have several teams under it. E.g.Clan Death Company has teams DC.Xtrm and DC.fr. Teams should be registered, and not their parent clans. If your clan has only one team in it, then registering the clan name as the team is fine.

Step 2: Take part in tournaments
Tournaments that adhere to basic rules and regulations set out by Gamer.LK will provide participating teams with points for each match win. You win a match in a tournament - your team gets points. These points go into your lifetime pool of points.

E.g. Kings of LAN August and SLCG '12 will provide teams with points for each win. At the end of each tournament, the country ranking will be updated based on each teams performance at the tournament.  Losses and draws provide no points.

Notes
We will be kicking this off as soon as we get most of the current teams officially registered. Please work with your clan and push them to register their teams (with final names) ASAP so that we can start implementing this soon.

Ofcourse, as with anything new, this will have hiccups and situations we haven't fully covered. We will need the community's help in order to get this going without any issues.

FAQs
After I register my team, I want to change some players - what then?
You are allowed to make an unlimited number of roster changes for a team. This is similar to how the players of Manchester United football club may change from year to year, but the name of the team will be the same.

My clan doesn't have multiple teams - how do I register?
In this case, your "Clan name" and "Team name" will be the same in the registration form.

What is the difference between a clan and a team?
A clan can have multiple teams. Clan KTHX had one team for DOTA and one team for CS - two teams under the clan KTHX.

Does this rank clans?
This system does not rank clans. It ranks teams only. Teams represent clans. Therefore, if your team is ranked #1 and it represents KTHX, it is fair to say that KTHX is ranked #1.

Yes. All online and LAN tournaments organised by Gamer.LK will be ranked. We will contact other organisations that host tournaments and work together so that their tournaments are held to the minimum requirements (seeded draws etc).
