Help! 9400GT or G210?
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:33:19 pm »
So my 8500GT decided to blow a capacitor, meaning currently I have to suffer and use my onboard VGA........ thanks to an understanding uncle and my birthday coming up, I can buy a new card for around 8k.......... me and rustix went around unity today, and narrowed it down to two cards :

1. Biostar 512/1GB (price diff is negligible) 9400GT with 3 years warranty
2. EVGA 512MB G210 with 2 years warranty

Both the cards are in my price range, as I'll be fronting some cash as well....... I'm running a dual core with 1GB RAM, and the 8500GT worked like a charm with it.......... So I'd like to know what ya'll think about what card I should get?

hey man i think the g210 will be a better choice cuz it has the latest architecture based on the 40nm process witch mean low power consumption and full support for dx10.1 and win7. it also has a memory bandwith of 8.0(GB/Sec) which is more that enough for some lite gaming.

btw where did u see the g210 at unity plaza?

Ya dude. You wont get any decent gaming on it. I'd seriously suggest atleast a 9500GT for around the same price.

The GT210 should be around the same as the 9400GT (and the GT220 more or less = 9500GT), but its a smaller die so it'll have lower temps, etc (and IIRC DX10.1).

You are correct. There are no nvidia DX11 cards (yet.. Until fermi appears), so the HD 5xxx series cards are the only DX11 chips available.

If you're buying used with no warranty, might as well check on ebay. You can easily get a lightly used 9600GT for under $60 + around $20 for shipping. Now that's a proper gaming card.
